Target Shopping Trip: Spent $24.11, Saved $47.33

July 9, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 75 Comments

We decided to hit Target last night to stock up on some more of my favorite SoBe Lifewater, and I picked up a few more deals while I was there:

  • (20) SoBe Lifewater, $1 ea. — used (10) B1G1 SoBe coupons from the Heads or Tails Instant Win Game making them $0.50 each.
  • (4) Bear Naked Granola, $3.39 ea. — used (2) B1G1 Bear Naked coupons from Facebook making them $1.69 each.
  • Pampers Baby Wipes, $2.39 — used $2/1 Pampers Wipes, exp. 7-31-10 (P&G 06/06/10), just $0.39 after coupon.
  • (4) Rayovac AA Batteries, $0.50 ea. — used $1/1 Rayovac Batteries printable = FREE.
  • (3) Degree for Women Deodorant, $0.97 ea. (travel size) — used $1/1 Degree for Women printable = FREE.
  • (2) Kellogg’s Eggo Cinnamon Toast Waffles, $1.75 ea. (TPC) — used $1/2 Kellogg’s Eggo Frozen Product, exp. 8-15-10 (RP 06/20/10) stacked with $1/2 Kellogg’s Eggo Frozen Waffles or Pancakes @Target printable making these $0.75 each.
  • Oscar Mayer Beef Franks, $2.54 — used FREE Oscar Mayer coupon from the Kraft Summer Samples Pack (no longer available) = FREE.
  • Puffs With Lotion, $1.29 — used $1/1 Puffs With Lotion coupon from Vocalpoint. The coupon actually went through as $1.29 for some reason, so these were FREE.
  • Suave 2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner, $2.94 — used FREE Suave coupon from Rachael Ray offer (no longer available) = FREE.
  • (2) Ocean Spray Blueberry Cocktail Juice, $1.98 (TPC) — used (2) $1/1 Ocean Spray Blueberry printables making them just $0.98 each.
  • Peter Pan Peanut Butter, $1.89 — used FREE Peter Pan Peanut Butter coupon, can’t remember where I got this one = FREE.

All together I spent $24.11, including tax, and saved $47.33!

One thing that really excited me is I noticed a change to the registers while I was checking out. If a coupon was worth more than the price of an item, it automatically adjusted itself down!

While it’s a bummer that there’s no potential for overage anymore, this should save many of you some headaches with cashiers that are clueless about how to handle a coupon with a value in excess of the product price, especially when picking up the FREE after coupon travel size items.

Have you noticed this change at your Target store lately?

Target and CVS Savings: Spent $36.30, Saved $171.58

June 21, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 36 Comments

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to CVS, but I had a good trip last Saturday. I started out with $9 in ECBs, and paid $11.39 out of pocket for everything pictured. I wiped out my ECBs to buy the toilet paper, but TP deals have been pretty scarce lately. Oh, almost forgot — I’ll get $8.97 back via the Schick Hydro Razor mail-in rebate, effectively making my OOP $2.42!

I hit Target on Saturday to use up a number of free product coupons that I had on hand along with a few other deals. The cashier gave me the overage on the FREE Travel Size K-Y Jelly, so I was able to pick up everything shown for just $2.54!

One of my favorite finds was the Ziploc Slider Bags that were on TPC for $2.33. I used the recent $1.50/2 Ziploc Products printable (no longer available) plus two $1/1 Ziploc Product Target printables to get them for $0.58 each.

I went back to Target yesterday to get a price adjustment on a suitcase (over a $40 difference!), and I used some free Healthy Choice and Marie Callender’s coupons that I’ve been holding onto for awhile to maximize the buy 4 get 1 free offer.

A couple of other deals I found:

Kraft Salad Dressing (16 oz.), $1.02 on clearance
$1/1 Kraft Dressing, exp. 8-22-10 (SS 06/20/10)
$0.02 after coupon!

Starkist Tuna Pouches, $0.89 on TPC
Starkist Tuna Creations, $1.34

B2G1 StarKist Tuna Salad or Creations Pouch, exp. 8-15 (RP 6/20/10)
B2G1 Starkist Tuna Salad or Creations, exp. 8-13 (ALL YOU July ’10)
$1/2 StarKist Pouch Products, exp. 8-6-10 (ALL YOU May ’10)
$0.26 ea. wyb 2 Tuna Pouches and 1 Tuna Creations after coupons!

In the end I paid $31.34 for everything shown, and I received (2) $5 gift cards for the SoBe Lifewater deal. The Black and Blue Berry is my favorite drink, and my husband likes the Strawberry Dragonfruit, so I was glad to stock up at a decent price!

All three trips came to a total of $36.30, making for a savings of $171.58! Obviously these savings are a bit atypical since I had a number of free product coupons, but I think this demonstrates that often it pays to hold on to these coupons to use them when you can maximize their effectiveness by working them into other deals.

Walmart Shopping Trip 6/9/10

June 9, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 22 Comments

One of the things you guys asked for in my recent survey was for me to post more of my personal shopping trips, and I’m happy to oblige!

Now keep in mind this particular trip isn’t actually my shopping trip. I made a list for my hubby and sent him off to Walmart with a stack of coupons. He did a pretty good job, bringing home everything pictured for just $7.11 and saved $15.18!

  • (2) BIC Pens, $1 — used recent $1/1 BIC Stationery printable that’s no longer available making them FREE.
  • Chef’s Requested Bacon-Wrapped Filets, $5.97 — used $3/1 Chef’s Requested printable. These got mixed reviews in the comments, but I figured we’d give them a try. They actually cost about $2.50 more here than in other regions, so I probably wouldn’t have bought them if I was the one shopping, but that’s okay.
  • Pampers Wipes, $1.97 — used $2/1 Pampers Wipes coupon from last Sunday’s P&G insert to score FREE baby wipes.
  • (4) KC Masterpiece Barbeque Sauce, $1.42 — used $1/1 KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce printable. There was also a $1/1 KC Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce or Marinade in the 5/9 SS that will work. This also was more than anticipated, but we were out and he decided to buy it anyhow. I probably would have only purchased one and held on to the other coupons for a better sale, but I’m trying not to be too critical since he’s still very much a newbie couponer, LOL.
  • (4) La Creme Mouse Yogurt, $2.18 — used (2) B1G1 La Creme Mousse printables and (2) $1/1 La Creme Yogurt Multipack printables making them only $0.59 each.

So all in all I’m pretty happy with his savings today! There are a ton more Walmart deals to take advantage of, but we’re going out of town this weekend, so I’m trying not to load the fridge up.

How’s Your Electrasol/Finish Stockpile?

January 25, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 45 Comments

Have you been stockpiling dishwasher detergent with the $2.50/1 Finish or Electrasol coupon that was in the 1/3 Smartsource insert? If not, there’s still time to order some coupons from eBay or a coupon clipping service and use them before they expire on 1-31-10.

All together (including the $8.35 I spent on coupons) I spent slightly over $18 for 22 boxes of Electrasol/Finish Dishwashing Detergent, including 6 double-count packages, a savings of over 80% off. Had I paid retail for them, I’d have paid at least $97 — wow!

Here’s the breakdown:

  • 4 boxes at Walgreens when they were FREE a few weeks ago
  • 6 double-count boxes at Discount Drug Mart for $0.49 ea.
  • 12 boxes today at Kroger for $5.88 with the Mega Sale

The Kroger Mega Sale is good through at least next Sunday, so get out there and stock up!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
