I save money by asking everyone to bring a dish with them, as well as using the coupons I have and current sales prices to determine what I”m going to make.

I plan ahead and look for coupons and sales to get the things I need for my parties so my menu usually is dependent on what is on sale. I don’t do potluck because I really enjoy hosting parties and want to provide everything for my guests. I like to decorate with things that will compliment my party theme by using things I have available (pulling things from other rooms, etc) and also by making things with craft items I have on hand! I think that you can be really creative while still budgeting carefully!

I open my pantry cupboard and serve items I got for a good deal — peanuts, crackers, etc.

I always check out liquidation stores for party & paper goods and buy extra and store in plastic totes when bargains are found. I also supply the meat and have everyone else bring a dish to pass very inexpensive and loads of fun.

Look through the pantry first and determine what you have, then shop for what you need.

We do a potluck for extra food, and we provide the main course. We also make our own dips and cut up our own veggies for the veggie tray.
Shelly
I provide the main course which is usually a roast. Everyone else brings the appetizers.

Altho this doesn’t have to do with grocery items or coupons, a great idea is to get Domino’s pizza – 2 medium 2 topping pizzas for $5.99. A pretty cheap nice treat that doesn’t involve cooking.

My best frugal party tip is to buy simple things like crescent rolls and mini sausages and make all your appetizers yourself.

To throw a frugal party, I usually take a look at what I am stocked up on and make a menu around that.

I go through my pantry to plan the menu (finger foods) and then ask guests to bring their favorites too. We usually have plenty to go around and enough for to-go plates.

Having guests bring food dishes significantly lowers the bill! Also I like to look at thrift stores for unique serving dishes for presentation.
