For the second year, Walmart gathered hundreds of children ages 18 months to 12 years and turned them loose. They played with the hottest new toys from Hasbro, Mattel, Spin Master and Zing to get their thoughts and stamps of approval.

The result? Wamart’s Top 20 Toy List — and these are toys that are sure to knock your kids’ socks off Christmas morning!

Razor A Kick Scooter Review

This week’s focus is on active kids, featuring scooters, ride-ons, racing cars, and more. This is the first year that Walmart has added these kinds of toys to their annual holiday focus group and the kids have spoken! They voted the Razor A Kick Scooter as the hottest ride on this season.

Priced at a low $22.70, the Razor A Kick Scooter is the perfect toy for allowing kids and teens alike to burn off a little excess energy. The handlebar can be adjusted to three different heights, and it’s lightweight (only 6 pounds!) and folds up super compact. Features include:

  • Crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum for sturdiness and durability
  • Folds up for storage or for carrying in a bag
  • Lightweight: approximately 6 lbs.
  • 98mm inline-style urethane wheels
  • ABEC 5 bearings
  • Patented rear fender brake
  • Requires no assembly
  • Weight capacity: 143 lbs.

The Razor A Kick Scooter is appropriate for ages 5 and up, although, to be honest, I’m pretty sure my youngest used one at an earlier age, being around his older brothers and sisters. I’d recommend picking up a bike helmet to go along with this gift, as I know my kids have all taken a spill on theirs at one time or another.

Kids Verdict? My kids are all big fans of their Razor Scooters, and Razor definitely makes the best scooters. We’ve tried others with licensed characters on them in the past, and they’ve not held up as well. It’s a great toy for keeping their active, especially at this low price point!

Mom’s Verdict? I love toys that encourage my kids to get outside and play, and a Razor A Kick Scooter totally does this. I appreciate how small and compact it is when folded up and that it’s lightweight, as well. We hang our kids’ bikes from the ceiling in our garage, since we have minimal storage room, and I’m unable to get them down by myself. But we can hang the scooters on the wall without taking up much space, and the kids can get them out all by themselves!

Disney Palace Pets Magic Dance Pumpkin Review

This week’s focus is for movie/TV fans, and I was sent the Disney Palace Pets Magic Dance Pumpkin, which ranked among the most popular licensed toys on the Chosen by Kids Top 20 Toys List.

Priced at $49.97, the Disney Palace Pets Magic Dance Pumpkin is an adorable and interactive toy that children can play with and control it using light-up “magic wand” remote controller. Features include:

  • Remote-control puppy toy
  • Adorable and interactive
  • Speaks over a dozen phrases and sounds
  • Follows movement commands
  • Performs 2 pre-programmed dance sequences
  • Light-up magic wand controller
  • Soft fabric ears

The Magic Dance Pumpkin is appropriate for ages 4 and up, and I would say that age 7 is probably about the high end of the age range that would be appropriate for this toy. It’s very cute and fluffy, and will definitely appeal to little girls that are in love with all things Disney Princess. Controlling her is fairly easy, although the forward and reverse buttons don’t seem very logical to me personally — you push up to go backward and down to go forward.

Kids Verdict? Both of my girls agreed that the Disney Palace Pets Magic Dance Pumpkin is totally adorable. My 10-year-old wasn’t really interested in it — not surprising since she’s not too terribly interested in toys anymore. However, I was surprised that my 8-year-old wasn’t too interested, either. She’s very much a Disney Princess fan, but she played with it a few times and then it sat. I definitely think that this is a toy that will appeal more to the younger age range, as I mentioned above.

Mom’s Verdict? This is a cute toy, and it seems like it would be fairly easy for a child to control — although the forward and reverse buttons don’t seem very logical to me personally. You push up to go backward and down to go forward. I definitely appreciate the fact that this toy has batteries included, since it requires four AA and two AAA batteries to operate.

In-Store Holiday Events at Walmart This Weekend!

Raise your hand if you love the luxurious scent of Downy Unstopables… Yeah, me too! I just adore the way my laundry smells when I shake some of these scent beads into the drum before washing. My favorite is the Fresh scent, and it makes my whole house smell amazing!

I’ve often wished my house could smell that way all the time, but even with as often as we do laundry around here (you know, 5 kids and all), the scent doesn’t last nearly long enough.

But starting December 28th, that’s all going to change! Febreze and Unstopables and pairing up to bring you the long-lasting freshness of Downy Unstopables up to 24/7 — and you can find it first at Walmart.

Available in Shimmer, Lush, and my personal fave, Fresh scents, new Febreze Unstopables is a premium line of products that will incorporate the Air Effects, NOTICEables, Candles & Fabric Refresher technologies.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the new Febreze NOTICEables Unstopables, and I am loving the two alternating scented oils. My house smells so fresh and clean! Of course, I had to try the Fresh scent first, but I also received the Lush scent. If the scratch and sniff sticker on the front is any indication, I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it, as well.

According to the packaging, the NOTICEables should give up to 60 days of freshness on the low setting, all for the price of $6.94. Not bad for that kind of longevity, and I’m sure we’ll see some coupons for these products, as well!

My sources tell me that the Unstopables Air Effects air freshener will be priced at $4.94, and the Unstopables fabric refresher will be $6.94. No word on the candles yet, but I’m guessing they’ll be somewhere in the same vicinity.

Sew Cool Machine Review

This week I’ll be focusing on creative toys, specifically the Spin Master Sew Cool Sewing Machine. I’ve got some crafty little girls, so they were super excited to give this highly-rated toy a test drive.

Priced at $29.97, the Sew Cool Machine comes with an impressive selection of projects to get your little seamstress started. Included with the “sewing machine: are:

  • 8 sheets of Sew Cool fabric
  • 3 Sew Cool pre-cut featured projects
  • 1 Sew Cool strap
  • 14 pre-cute decorative pieces
  • 8 plastic buttons
  • 1 bag of loose stuffing
  • 6 extra project patterns

The Sew Cool Machine is appropriate for ages 6 and up, because there are no worries about little fingers and needles! It works by “felting” the fabric together, so there’s no need for thread, and the felting needles are enclosed in a plastic guard for safety.

If your girls fly through the fabric and pre-cut projects (and I assure you they will!), you can pick up Sew Cool fabric kits and refills. Or you can actually “sew” any kind of felt or fleece. In fact, my girls made blankets for their American Girl dolls with leftover fleece scraps from a no-sew blanket that I made recently.

Kids Verdict? It’s safe to say that my girls LOVED the Sew Cool Machine! So much that my 8-year-old, Addie, asked me if she could make a video demonstrating how to make the cute cupcake project for you all. It’s a little long, even though I tried to speed it up during the sewing parts, but I know it would make her day if you’d take 3 minutes to watch it!

Mom’s Verdict? This is a toy that I’d highly recommend. It kept my girls engaged for hours, and not only with the pre-cut project and patterns. It really sparked their imaginations, and they created their own projects using scrap fabric. One special note — this item does require (4) AA batteries, so make sure to stock up on those before giving this as a gift!
