Chicken Soup: A Frugal Remedy + Chance to Win $250 Sponsored by Vicks

February 13, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski 2 Comments

I recently had the honor of being chosen as one of four bloggers to participate in a special campaign sponsored by Vicks on Divine Caroline.

Homemade Chicken Soup

I’ll be sharing the three guest posts I wrote for it over the next few weeks.
Be sure to read on to find out how you can win $250!

Mom’s Favorite Soothing Soup

Moms have sworn by chicken soup for ages for relieving symptoms related to cold and flu – but did you know that scientists have actually proven its effectiveness? Studies show that chicken soup acts as both an anti-inflammatory and a decongestant.

Many, though not all, canned versions offer these benefits, but why opt for canned when you can make your own nutritious and delicious soup in under an hour?  When my little ones are feeling under the weather, I cook up a batch of this tasty soup.  It couldn’t be easier, and you’ll feel good about being able to serve them a meal with no additives or preservatives that will aid them in feeling better.

I just follow a very basic recipe, but I don’t scrimp on the carrots and I DO use my pressure cooker. They’re a fabulous tool for preparing meals quickly and easily with lots of flavor. If you don’t have a pressure cooker, a good stockpot works great.

Since ’tis the season, you might want to check out this valuable content about colds and flu – sponsored by Vicks, presented by DivineCaroline – including a chit chat where you can win $250!

Headed Off To BlissDom

February 6, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski 2 Comments

im_speaking_yall BadgesBy the time most of you read this, I’ll be on my way to the airport for my very first speaking gig, and what a gig it is!

I have the pleasure of being on a very fine panel at BlissDom comprised of myself, Katja Presnal, and Christine Young. Our chat will be moderated by Amy Clark. We’ll be sharing our thoughts on and experiences with affiliate marketing, and it should be very informative!

I’m so excited to have this opportunity to meet the many wonderful bloggers that are attending this event. I know that it’s not quite the same as being there, but I’ll be Tweeting during the conference, so be sure to follow me if you’re interested in hearing updates. Things will probably be a little bit slow around here, but don’t fret – I’ve got some fabulous ladies helping me out with the drugstore deals in my absence.

That’s all for now. Wish me luck, y’all!

Using eCoupons Versus Paper Coupons

February 5, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski 4 Comments

Money4MomsToday on Money4Moms we’ll be chatting with our friend and fellow Elevenmom, Erin Gifford.

You all probably know Erin best as the mom behind Coupon Cravings; however, she’s also a Shortcuts.com representative, so she’ll be sharing her knowledge regarding ecoupons from a corporate perspective.

This has been a hot topic in the blogosphere with sites such as MommySnacks.net, The Thrifty Mommy, and SouthernSavers all weighing in on the topic.  The crux of the issue is that ecoupons are not meant to be used in conjunction with paper coupons.  But this is a difficult practice to follow in reality because of the limitations in loading and redeeming the ecoupons.

Tune into Money4Moms today at 3pm EST/2pm CST to learn more about this current issue.  We’ll be taking question via chat on the Blog Talk Radio site or by phone at (646) 716-8312.

Don’t forget to listen for today’s special code word that can earn you a second entry into my iTouch + $10 iTunes GC giveaway!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
