Chicken Soup: A Frugal Remedy + Chance to Win $250 Sponsored by Vicks

February 13, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski 2 Comments

I recently had the honor of being chosen as one of four bloggers to participate in a special campaign sponsored by Vicks on Divine Caroline.

Homemade Chicken Soup

I’ll be sharing the three guest posts I wrote for it over the next few weeks.
Be sure to read on to find out how you can win $250!

Mom’s Favorite Soothing Soup

Moms have sworn by chicken soup for ages for relieving symptoms related to cold and flu – but did you know that scientists have actually proven its effectiveness? Studies show that chicken soup acts as both an anti-inflammatory and a decongestant.

Many, though not all, canned versions offer these benefits, but why opt for canned when you can make your own nutritious and delicious soup in under an hour?  When my little ones are feeling under the weather, I cook up a batch of this tasty soup.  It couldn’t be easier, and you’ll feel good about being able to serve them a meal with no additives or preservatives that will aid them in feeling better.

I just follow a very basic recipe, but I don’t scrimp on the carrots and I DO use my pressure cooker. They’re a fabulous tool for preparing meals quickly and easily with lots of flavor. If you don’t have a pressure cooker, a good stockpot works great.

Since ’tis the season, you might want to check out this valuable content about colds and flu – sponsored by Vicks, presented by DivineCaroline – including a chit chat where you can win $250!

I would be interested in trying your chicken soup recipe if you don’t mind. Do you by chance already have it typed up that you could post a link? Thanks for considering my request!

Absolutely, Shalyse! I’m getting ready to take my son to a birthday party, but I’ll try to get it posted this weekend.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
