January 6, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting several 24-hour giveaways throughout the day to give you plenty of chances to win!

Today is also the last day to enter to win $250 from Lottay.com!

Many of you have probably already heard of $5 Dinners, the blog written by my good bloggy friend, Erin Chase, that shares healthy, delicious, and affordable meals. And by “affordable,” I mean ultra-frugal — every recipe can feed a family for $5 or less!

If you’re already a fan of Erin’s or are now intrigued and interested to find out how you can prepare meals in your own home for $5 and under, you’ll be thrilled to find out that she recently published her own cookbook, The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook.

This cookbook is jam-packed with not only recipes that can be prepared for $5 or less but also step-by-step instructions and tips on how you can pare down your grocery bill and feed your family for less. This is a must-read for those of you trying to stretch your budgets right now or anyone just trying to save in some areas so you can spend in others!

And Erin’s hooked me up with a special treat for my readers:

My most inexpensive yummy meal is old fashioned pinto beans and cornbread. Costs about $5 to make and feeds us for at least 2 meals.

One of my favorite, inexpensive and healthy meals is chili.
    1lb ground beef
    2 quarts home canned tomatoes
    1lb dried beans, soaked overnight
Slow cook or simmer on stove all day. Add chili powder as desired.

My favorite easy and cheap meal is plain only spaghetti. I stock up on hamburger when it’s cheap and brown it all up and package in 1lb packages to freeze. All I have to do is take out a pkg of burger to thaw, brown it and add a can of spaghetti sauce and cook the noodles. Cheap and easy. And it’s my family’s favorite quick meal. Thank you for the giveaway. I’m always looking for new cheap and easy ideas for dinner.

It helps for me to buy a large amount of chicken and cook it all at once. I love poaching chicken. Then I freeze it into meal size bags. It saves me time to pull out a chicken pack and saves money!

Brown rice with veggies. Any kind of pasta, or scrambled eggs. There are so many good frugal choices, but I’d love to win this cookbook to have more ideas.

My favorite cheap meal is beef and noodles. It is less expensive if you use hamburger instead of roast meat.

Spaghetti is certainly an inexpensive meal! We also love omelettes because they’re easy on the pocketbook as well.
