Cream of mushroom soup + 1 lb frozen seafood mix makes a decent soup or sauce with rice for definitely less than $5!

My favorite inexpensive meal is ” macaroni and hamburg”!!! The recipe has been passed down from my great grandma. It consists of macaroni, hamburger and tomato paste… yep thats it!!
She used to feed it to her 14…yes 14 children when times were really tough. It has definently stood the test of time!!

Favorite inexpensive meal is tacos.

we always stretch our buget by cutting down the meat and using lots of frozen veggies, whole wheat pasta, & beans… all frugal and healthy options.

Our inexpensive meal is called “Wild Turkey Surprise” (after the Bugs Bunny Cartoon). I take leftover rice and place it in a casserole pan. I then take leftover vegetables and gravy (if I have it) and place that over the vegetables. Then add cooked ground turkey and place that on top. Sprinkle your favorite spice mixture over all and top with shredded cheese (I use cheddar). This is a great dish to make at the end of the week to clear out the fridge.

Pasta to make any meal “bigger”. But the kids really like tacos, or hamburger helper!
Karen
I never use the amount of meat called for, ALWAYS less and it is never missed. Instead I add more veggies (grated carrot is easy to add to almost everything) or add beans. I keep cooked chicken brsts (bought on sale) in the freezer to chop up for meals – never a whole chicken breast on a plate! Meatless once a week too!

Chicken Noodle soup-just toss in leftover chicken and all of the leftover veggies in the vegetable crisper, and you have a great hot meal!!

Baked potatoe fries are an inexpensive and filling meal for us!
Chrissy
A really easy meal is turkey lunch meat on sale, box of stuffing, and gravy. Roll up the stuffing inside the turkey, place in casserole dish, pour over the gravy, and bake-really good and fast!

I actually have a new favorite that my boyfriend just taught me. When he was a kid his mom would make “survival soup,” which consisted of a whole head of cabbage, a bag of carrots, a bag of celery, a couple pounds of potatoes, and a package of stew beef cooked in a broth made from water mixed with a 64 oz jug of V8. It easily fed their family of six, plus a couple of neighborhood kids. He made it for the two of us last week when we were fighting head colds. Now we have tons of left overs in the freezer!

We love to have a salad/baked potato bar for dinner, or if all else fails, “breakfast for dinner” is a fave!
