Win-It Wednesday: Dyson Air Multiplier 10-Inch Desk Fan

July 14, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

This is no ordinary fan — obviously. In fact, did you even realize that it IS a fan?

This is the new Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan, and while you’ll definitely have to pay a good amount for this revolutionary technology, there are some very valid reasons why you should give it some consideration when making your next fan purchase:

  • Notice there are NO blades — The Dyson Air Multiplier technology does not require blades to generate a steady stream of air. We don’t use traditional fans around our children because of the dangerous, fast-spinning blades. When I was younger, I leaned back over one of those old fans with the metal blades. It immediately sucked my long hair up in it, pulling out a good section of it, so while I learned the hard way, we’ve chosen not to expose our children to them at all.
  • It’s super easy to clean — After a few days of use, traditional fan blades and the fan casing become caked with dust, fibers, and pollen. Getting them clean is a major ordeal, but with the Air Multiplier, you can just easily wipe it clean with a damp cloth. This is especially important for households with allergy sufferers.
  • It uses a dimmer switch — Traditional fans usually only have 3-4 speed settings, but the Dyson Air Multiplier allows you to set your own perfect amount of air flow by turning a dial.
  • You can easily tilt it with the touch-tilt feature — Box fans don’t tilt at all, and directional fans can become loose over time, making adjusting them difficult. The Dyson Air Multiplier has a touch-tilt feature that makes directing the air flow simple and easy.

I know some of you that use a fan at night to help you sleep are probably wondering if it’s silent. Well, it’s definitely quieter than a traditional fan, but it still provides a good amount of white noise that will help put you drift off to sleep.

We’ve been thoroughly happy with our Dyson Air Multiplier Fan. Besides being very futuristic-looking and a great conversation starter, it does a great job cooling off a room in a safe manner that’s very important to this mom of five.

I have wanted one of these. It is smaller and much cooler looking than the huge fan I keep in my living room to keep the air flowing.

I’d put it outside on the deck while grilling to keep the mosquitos away!

We just bought a house and had to remodel so have no money to install air-conditioning. We have fans but need something for our 3-yr olds room. This would be perfect!

Would use it in the living room, where I wouldn’t be afraid of my two year old touching a fan blade, and where it would be easy to keep clean!

I would set this on my coffee table so my two dogs and two cats could set in front of it and let the wind blow through their hair. Regular fans are just not safe for all those paws!

I would put it in my kitchen where I spend most of my time. It is so hot in there when cooking and canning!

I would put it on my night stand. It seems no matter how low I put the air condition and how high I put the ceiling fan, these darned ol’ hot flashes keep fisiting and keep me up half the night. This would be perfect right on me all night and maybe keep me comfortable enough not to slap my husband around lol

Living in the deep south it is soooo hot! Even with the air on it is sometimes 82 degrees in here. I would put this in my living room to cool us off a little more.

This looks SO awesome! My husband and I both have fans on each side of our bed that we use at night. I think I’d love to replace his – our 10th anniversary is a few weeks away and this would be a great gift!!

I would love to put this fan in my little boy’s room. It would help keep his room cool–it’s 110 degrees here with the heat index. The white noise would help him sleep at night, too :)

I would put it on my nightstand. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year at the age of 39. I had to undergo chemo and radiation therapy. I have completed all my treatments and I am now cancerfree! The treatments put in a early menopause so I have hot flashes. The fan is small enough for me to direct the air only at myself at night. It would definitely help me to sleep better.

I would put this in my 3 year old sons room. We have an AC and a white noise machine, but he sleeps so light that he still wakes up when someone walks by his room to the bathroom. I would love to have this to put in his room on top of everything else. His neurologist actually recommended a fan in his room but because he’s 3 and has autism, I hesitate to put one in his room for fear of him getting his fingers stuck in one!
