I always try to use one main ingredient that can be used for many appetizers. I love using a pork shoulder you can always get one for great price. I make barbeque pork sandwiches, smoked pork queso dip, stuffed smoked porked crescent rolls with aged chedder. I also have friends and family bring a dish and I supply the drinks and meat to stretch a dollar.

I try to plan ahead and stock up on party supplies (non perishables of course) year round. Then I plan the menu around foods I can get a good deal on, typically at least one crockpot dish and the rest cold salads/snacks so I can relax and enjoy the party too.

These are the frugal tips I use when I throw my big Super Bowl party next week. I plan ahead. I prepare some of the food ahead, and watch the sales. For example, I waited until Coke went on sale this week, to buy it for the party. I made a huge pot of soup to serve at the party; froze it a few weeks ago. I find that my pocket book doesn’t feel so empty when I spread out the costs over a period of time. I also buy the paper goods in advance, using coupons from Party City ( a store near here).

Frugal party tip-use coupons and stockpile-that way you can have things on hand to make and will only have to buy perishables.

I swear I am not just say this because of the gift card, but my best money saving tip for anything is buying what you need at Walmart (and using every coupon you can find for the items you need).

I think that homemade goes a long way sometimes when it comes to being frugal! Use that creative mind and whip something up!!

When it comes to throwing a party its all about quality and presentation. Wrong, but that’s what I want my guest to think. When I throw small gatherings for company picnics or small game nights or most importantly the upcoming Super Bowl I like to do normal dishes with a small twist. Something that everyone could like. Little do they know that I have taken the most mundane food item and gave it a twist that every guest will enjoy. For example when I think of sandwiches its like every muscle in my body disappeared as I slouch down it sorrow. But if you take those same ingredients but instead of boring bread add croissants you just classed up a boring sandwich. Not to mention, croissants instead of normal bread really isn’t that more, if not even cheaper. Using coupons, and I have to admit the commissary for meats, really helps save pennies and yet step up the class. Hope this little tips helps someone. I know our guest will be enjoying croissant sandwiches with cheese trays, relish trays, fresh fruit, simple salad of mixed greens, feta cheese, Greek olives and Greek dressing (sounds fancy but it really is the same salad from the Olive Garden and only cost about $7 and it can feed 4-8 easily), and homemade lemonade served in small mason jars. YuM o! :0) Mouth watering cant wait!!

Keep it simple – it’s too easy to go overboard and hog wild when you have a party.
Laura
I like to serve something like chili which is easy and inexpensive to make in bulk and have people bring “fixins” like cheese or sour cream or crackers. Everyone gets plenty to eat and can make their own bowl just how they like it. :)
Ashley
I think a build-your-own-burrito bar is a very cool thing to do for a party & quite inexpensive.

We use copupons and sales to stock up so we have the food when we need it.
