When throwing a party, I always make sausage balls because they are inexpensive to make. I go to the dollar store to buy plates and such that look expensive but they are not. I usually ask everyone to bring something that would go with the main dish. I get everything I stocked up on that are snacky foods out of the cabinet.
Dawn
Little smokies with barbeque sauce.

I’m always stocking up on bargains that I could serve. The final get together is reasonably priced.

I like to do the little smokies wrapped in the pillsbury bread. I always shop for finger foods and snacks that I’ve got coupons for.

The best type of parties when everyone brings a dish to pass. You might ask them to make one of their ethnic dishes to pass. Everyone seems excited to bring their own dish – less expensive for you . If it is a person who is not fond of cooking/baking you might ask that person to bring some paper products or chips or alcohol.

For a casual party, I ask everyone to bring their favorite finger foods or treats, and I will prepare a couple myself, depending on what I find on sale that week or what I have in my stash. That way, we all enjoy a variety of foods, but nobody has to spend a lot.
Stephanie
Ask each person to bring their favorite snack food plus the recipe! It’s fun, and it doesn’t put the host in a financial bind!
Selene M
Serve iced tea or lemonade as your drinks instead of soft drinks or alcoholic beverages.

Don’t serve a meal. Serve appetizers and you will save big time!

I usually ask everyone to bring an appetizer or bring a dessert and just focus on the main course. Everyone loves potluck because they get to try a little bit from everyone.

I shop at party city for really cute themed napkins and fill in at the dollar store next door for plates, table cloths, etc.
