Taking advantage of the sales and stocking-up. Potluck is also a great way to cut cost while trying new dishes.

One tip that sounds like a non tip is : don’t overthink it. Most people end a party with a lot of food left over. Some of it gets wasted. Have each person bring one item, you supply some, and usually you never run out of food.

I have found that planning in advance for a party usually will allow you to throw your party for little or no money. Keep your eyes open for all the good party foods that you can store or freeze and get them when they are cheap or free. Or if it is a last minute thing, try to plan your menu around what you have in your stash.

Have a Nancho Bar! Thats real cheap.

When I throw parties I will usually do a potluck and ask each family to bring a side dish or dessert. Then I just do the main dish and provide drinks. Another idea that I’ve done that’s worked very well is to have a “pizza party.” I make the dough and have sauce, cheese and veggies and meats ready in bowls. Each person can go through the line and make up their own pizza. We bake them up and everyone can enjoy!

You can get Frank’s Hot Sauce for free at Meijer, this cuts down on the cost of chicken wings. LOVE IT!

Obviously, I check out dealseekingmom for the best deals around on party foods and ask everyone to bring something. And I always serve whatever tortilla chips I got at a bargain price with cream cheese mixed with salsa (from my stocked pantry that I got for some unreal price ;). It’s a cheap and reliable hit! Touchdown!

I like to have everyone bring a dish as well – more variety AND easy on the budget.

I like to stock up on party items whenever I find them at a steal, so I’m almost ready when party times roll around.

I usually have parties and have everyone bring a side dish, that way everyone pitches in a little.

We do a potluck and everyone brings finger foods!

I shop in bulk, and definitely clip coupons to help save money. Also, among all of our friends, we all tend to pitch in for parties, so everyone brings a little something. Really helps differ the costs.
