Labor Day Cookout Recipe Ideas

September 2, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

Looking for a few new ideas for your Labor Day cookout? Give this Jamaican Jerk Grilled Shrimp a try. It’s a touch spicy, but not TOO spicy, and you can use the extra spice mixture on chicken, pork and more!

And just a few more of my newest favorites:

A simple coffee marinade adds a mouth-watering, smokey flavor to to these coffee-marinated rib eye steaks that you will never be able to pinpoint as coffee!

This corn casserole recipe is so good you’ll want to scrape the dish completely clean to get every last bit of caramelized goodness from the corners!

These grilled caprese tomato kabobs are a delicious, yet healthy, side that pair perfectly with grilled chicken or steak!

Don’t let a little rain slow you down. These easy slow cooker ribs are every bit as good as ribs cooked on the grill all day long!

Dessert doesn’t get any simpler than these patriotic trifles in jars. Make them up ahead of time and screw lids on them for a dessert to go!

Wash it all down with these easy strawberry daiquiris. I’m not kidding when I say these are the BEST EVER!

What’s your favorite summer cookout recipe?

Easy Homemade Lemonade + eBook Giveaway (1st 100 Readers!)

August 17, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski 4 Comments

The following guest post is from Mandi of Life Your Way:

This week I’m excited to release my brand new ebook, Easy Homemade: Homemade Pantry Staples for the Busy Modern Family, which is on sale for just $0.99!

I don’t know about you, but for a long time I considered cooking from scratch to be something that only chefs or crazy people did (ha!). I’ve since discovered how easy it is to make from scratch so many of the things we never even thought twice about buying.

And I’ve also discovered a few fun recipes along the way too, like homemade lemonade, which is delicious and refreshing!

Easy Homemade Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 6 lemons
  • 4 cups cold water

Directions:

In a small saucepan, combine 3/4 cup water and sugar and heat over medium-high heat, until the sugar is dissolved into a simple syrup.

While that’s cooking, juice your lemons.

TIP: Roll your lemons on the counter, pressing down with the heel of your hand, to make them easier to juice.

In a pitcher, combine the simple syrup, lemon juice and cold water. Refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes.

Serve cold.

Variations:

Add 1 bunch of basil or mint to the saucepan to make a flavored simple syrup. Strain before combining with the lemon juice and water.

Add a pint of pureed strawberries for easy strawberry lemonade.

Yield: (4) 12-oz. glasses

Shelf life: 3-5 days

Discover more than 60 recipes for homemade kitchen staples like these in Easy Homemade, which is available for your Kindle, Nook or a full-color PDF to read on your computer for just $0.99 this week only!

PLUS, the first 100 readers to use coupon code DSM100 will get a FREE PDF copy of the ebook. But even if you miss that code, you can pick up your copy – including several great bonuses – for just $0.99!

Click here to get your copy today.

Need a last minute dessert idea for a Fourth of July gathering? Make a basic trifle recipe a little more fun by turning it into patriotic trifles in jars!

It couldn’t possibly be any easier to make, requiring only store bought pound cake, blueberries, raspberries, and homemade whipped cream (heavy cream, vanilla extract and sugar). So simple that the kids can help with almost every step!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
