Easy and Delicious Tomato Basil Soup Recipe

October 9, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

I was NOT a fan of tomato soup growing up, but thankfully my tastes have expanded because this creamy homemade tomato basil soup is wonderfully comforting and nourishing on a chilly day!

We paired our soup with grilled cheese sandwiches, of course — traditional American cheese for the kids and organic whole milk horseradish cheese from the farmers’ market for mom and dad. It got rave reviews all around!

Have you ever tried making homemade tomato soup?

DIY Chocolate Syrup Recipe

October 8, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

After becoming an educated label reader a few years ago, I just couldn’t bring myself to purchase chocolate syrup for my kids any longer. Instead we make our own at home with this easy chocolate syrup recipe as a special treat.

We mix it into milk for healthier chocolate milk, or if you boil it longer to thicken it up, it’s fantastic over ice cream!

Fall is the season for good things filled with yummy pumpkin flavor. While canned pumpkin is certainly convenient and sometimes less expensive, in my opinion homemade pumpkin puree tastes infinitely better.

Homemade Applesauce to Use Up Those Apples

October 5, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

We’ve been getting two large bags of organic apple varieties from our CSA for the past month now — more than even our family of seven can eat in a week. So we’ve been making lots of our favorite apple recipes lately, including the easy homemade applesauce recipe!

It’s a great way to preserve those extra apples, especially since it keeps for up to a week in the refrigerator or for up to a year in the freezer!

Double-Duty Recipe for Sugar Cookies

October 4, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

Multi-purpose recipes are always among my favorites, and I absolutely count this recipe for sugar cookies as one of my faves!

Just roll balls of the dough in some granulated sugar, flatten them and bake for an old-fashioned style sugar cookie. Or if you’re feeling a little more ambitious, this recipe is perfect for cut-out cookies, like these Halloween sugar cookies.

Either way, this is one of my go-to cookie recipes — make a double batch because I guarantee they won’t last long!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
