Consumer Recalls: Ceramic Banks, Silver Tree Tealight Candle Holders + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Oriental Trading Ceramic Banks

Oriental Trading Company has recalled ceramic piggy and lion banks because the yellow surface paint contains excessive levels of lead which is prohibited under federal law.  The recalled piggy bank is shaped like a pig and the body of the bank is painted yellow with floral designs.  The ceramic lion bank is shaped like a lion and is painted yellow with a brown mane.  For a complete description and picture of the recalled banks, go here.  The recalled banks were sold online and through catalogs of Oriental Trading Company and Fun Express from February 2003 through September 2010 for between $7 and $20 per dozen.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled banks away from children, discard them and contact Oriental Trading Company for information on receiving a refund or credit.  Contact the Oriental Trading Company at 800-723-6155 anytime or visit the firm’s website.

Michaels Silver Tree Tealight Candle Holders

Michaels Stores Inc. has recalled approximatly 7,600 Silver Tree Tealight Candle Holders because the tealight cups are positioned where the flame from the candles can ignite other parts of the candle holder, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.  The recall involves silver-colored tealight candle holders in a shape of a Christmas tree.  The candle holders are about 16-inches tall and have a silver star on the top.  The candle holders were sold at Michaels Arts & Craft stores nationwide from October 2010 through December 2010 for about $20.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled candle holders and return the product to any Michaels Arts & Craft store for a full refund.  For additional information, contact Michaels at 800-642-4235 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. CT, Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, or visit the firm’s website.

Kroger Pet Foods

Kroger Co. is recalling select packages of pet food sold in some of its retail stores because they may contain aflatoxin, which poses a health risk to pets.  For a complete list of sell by dates and UPC codes go here.

Consumers who have purchased the affected pet foods should not use them, and return them to the store for a full replacement or refund.  Customers with questions about this recall can contact Kroger toll-free at 800-632-6900, or visit the firms website.

Consumer Recalls: Wal-Mart Electric Heaters + More

Walmart Electric Heaters

About 2.2 million Flow Pro, Airtech, Aloha Breeze & Comfort Essentials Heaters, sold exclusively in Walmart Stores nationwide from December 2001 through October 2009, have been recalled because the heaters can malfunction resulting in overheating, smoking, burning, melting and fire.  The recalled heaters are grey with a metal handle on the top and grey control knobs on the front, and were sold for about $18.  The model number is 1013 and can be found on a label on the lower left corner of the back panel of the heater.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled heater and return the product to any Walmart store for a full refund.  For additional information contact Walmart, toll-free at 800-925-6278 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Portable Table Saws

One World Technologies of Anderson S.C. has recalled  it’s Ryobi RTS20 Portable Table Saws because the saw blade on the motor carriage could be misaligned, posing a laceration hazard.  The table saw has a blue base and warning label with the model RTS20 and Ryobi name printed on it and attached to the rear of the saw.  The recalled saws were sold at Home Depot retail outlets nationwide and in Canada from July 2010 through October 2010 for about $200.

Consumers should contact Ryobi immediately to receive a free inspection of their product and, if necessary, a free repair or replacement.  Contact Ryobi at 800-597-9624 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Rolaid Softchews

McNeil Consumer Healthcare is voluntarily recalling all lots of Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids Extra Strength plus Gas Softchews and Rolaids Multi-Symptom plus Anti-Gas Softchews because of reports of foreign materials in the product, including metal and wood particles.  Go here for a complete list of descriptions, lot numbers and UPC’s.

Consumers who purchased the products included in this recall should contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare for instructions about receiving a refund.  Contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare by calling 1-888-222-6036, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by visiting the firm’s website.

Tropical Nut & Fruit Walnut Products

All products containing walnuts supplied by Atlas Walnuts, LLC after November 16, 2010 have been voluntarily recalled by Tropical Nut & Fruit of Charlotte, NC because they have the potential to contain Salmonella.  The recalled products were sold in retail stores nationwide, and distributed to manufacturers and distributors.  For a complete description of the recalled items, go here.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.  Consumers with additional questions can call 800-438-4470 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.
