Consumer Recalls: Arctic Cat Snowmobiles

Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn. has recalled all 2010 Arctic Cat Z1, TZ1, F, Bearcat, M and CF model snowmobiles because the front lower suspension arm can crack during use, which could lead to loss of control and pose a risk of severe injury or death.  The model name is indicated on the side of the vehicle, in the registration materials and the owner’s manual.  The recalled snowmobiles were sold at Artic Cat dealerships nationwide from June 2009 through January 2011 for between $6,800 and $15,000.

Consumers should immediately stop using these snowmobiles and contact their local Arctic Cat snowmobile dealer to schedule a free repair.  For additional information, contact Arctic Cat at 800-279-6851 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Barry Callebaut USA LLC Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

A voluntary recall is being conducting on Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips because the product may contain undeclared milk protein.  Packages of the affected semi sweet chocolate chips have a UPC Code of 11110-86603.  For a complete list of the affected “Best By” dates, go here.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled semi sweet chocolate chips can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.  Consumers with any questions may contact Barry Callebaut USA LLC at 1-866-678-5231 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET.

Consumer Recalls: Home Thermostats, Teething Rings + More

White-Rodgers Home Heating and Cooling Thermostats

White-Rodgers of St. Louis, Mo. has announced a voluntary recall of programmable thermostats because the thermostats constantly charge the backup AA batteries used to power the thermostat’s clock.  This can cause the batteries to leak, resulting in a fire hazard.  For details of model numbers and date codes, go here.  The recalled thermostats were distributed by more than 40 utility companies to consumers nationwide who took part in energy conservation programs, and sold for about $150.

Consumers should immediately remove the two AA batters from the thermostat and contact White-Rodgers for a free repair kit.  If battery removal causes changes in your furnace operation, contact White-Rodgers.  For additional information, contact White-Rodgers toll-free at 888-624-1901 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Calisson Teething Rings

Calisson, Inc. of Dana Point, CA has recalled about 7,000 Cool-it Soother Teething Rings by Vulli because if the teething ring is punctured, bacteria and mold can grow inside the teether’s untreated liquid.  The Cool-it Soother teething rings are clear and is attached to a green plastic handle in the shape of the character “Gnon”, and were sold at small children’s specialty stores nationwide and online at amazon.com from January 2008 through November 2010 for about $10.  You can view a picture of the teething ring here.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled teething ring away from children and return it to Calisson for a free replacement.  For additional information, contact Calisson toll-free at 888-318-9803 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Kid O Products Baby Rattles

Kid O Products has announced a voluntary recall of some baby rattles because the rattle beads can come off when the rattle is twisted or pulled forcefully, posing a choking hazard to young children.  The recall involves the Prisma and Duo style wooden baby rattles with multi-colored beads.  For a complete description and picture of the recalled rattles, go here.  The affected rattles were sold in specialty children’s stores nationwide from November 2010 through December 2010 for about $12.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled rattles away from children and return them to the retail store where they were purcahsed for a full refund.  Consumers can also contact Kid O Products for instructions on how to mail the product to receive a full refund.  For additional information, contact Kid O Products collect at 212-366-5858 between 9 a.m. and d5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Consumer Recalls: Avalung Backpacks, Sump Pumps + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Avalung Backpacks

Black Diamond Equipment, Ltd. of Salt Lake City, Utah has recalled several models of their Avalung backpacks because the air intake tubing can crack under cold temperatures, causing the unit not to function as intended, posing a suffocation hazard.  For a complete list of model numbers, colors, sizes and PO numbers, go here.  The model name and color are printed on the side of the packpack and the PO number is printed on a white label inside the backpack.  The affected backpacks were sold at speciality outdoor and ski shops nationwide from January 2010 through December 2010 for between $180 and $280.

Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled backpacks and contact Black Diamond Equipment to receive a free replacement product or a full refund.  For additional information, contact Black Diamond collect at 801-278-5533 anytime or visit their website.

Sump Pumps and Effluent Pumps

ITT Water Technology, Inc., of Seneca Falls, N.Y. is recalling several models of sump and effluent pumps because pumps installed without a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFC) protection can pose an electric shock or electrocution hazard if touched by the consumer.  If you suspect that you have one of the recalled pumps and it is plugged in, do not touch it, the water around it or the surrounding floor area.  For a list of models number affected, go here.  The recalled pumps were sold through Goulds, Red Jacket and Bell& Gossett distributors nationwide from December 2009 to July 2010 for between $280 and $700.  These pumps were installed in new construction or as replacement pumps.

If you have purchased a sump pump between December 2009 and July 2010 and it is sky blue or red, you may have a recalled pump.  Do not touch the pump, the water around the pump or the floor surrounding the pump.  To verify if your pump is one affected by this recall, immediately contact ITT Water Technology toll-free at 866-325-4204 or visit one of the firm’s websites here, here or here.  If your pump is affected a technician will be sent to your home to replace or repair the pump.
