Take Deal Seeking Mom With You!

August 26, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 10 Comments

I’ve got an exciting new addition to my blog – now you can take Deal Seeking Mom with you on the go with my brand new mobile site at https://m.dealseekingmom.com/!!!

Of course, I’m not advocating that you run out and buy a data package for your cell phone as this IS a site geared towards frugality. But if you have Internet access on your cell phone for business reasons or because you’ve found a fabulous deal through your cell phone provider, you can view Deal Seeking Mom in a clean and easy to navigate mobile format.

Never miss a great deal again because you can’t recall the exact specifics of the scenario or you forgot a code!!! Now, if they could only come up with a way to print coupons from your phone . . .

Walgreens Shopping Trip 8/23/08

August 24, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 18 Comments

Up until now I’ve been more of a CVS gal, but the great $5 off $20 Walgreens coupon and free after EasySaver rebates items prompted me to make my first-ever trip last night.

I was fully prepared for them to be out of much that I wanted, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the only items they didn’t have were the vacuum bags. Oh, and I really wanted to stock up on the Cheerios, but unfortunately the brand new printer cartridge that I just bought at OfficeMax was defective.

Transaction

1 Jumbo-size Cheerios
2 Preparation H Wipes
1 Olive Oil Deep Conditioner (looking forward to trying this)
1 Soft White 60-watt Light Bulbs
1 Walgreens Brand Water Pitcher Cartridge
2 Boxes of Jiffy Pancake Mix

$5/$20 Walgreens coupon
(2)
$3/1 Preparation H printable
(2) $2/1 Walgreens EasySaver coupon
$1/1 Cheerios printable

Out of Pocket $16.20
EasySaver Rebates Earned $14.97

So can anyone explain to me how this works? I know that you can submit the rebates online and you get an extra percentage if you have them put on a Walgreens GC. What is the usual timeframe for receiving it?

I’m thinking at the very least I’ll start covering the EasySaver monthly deals and any good deals that I come across each week. Would you find this useful?

Target Corporate Coupon Policy

August 23, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 87 Comments

One of my readers commented the other day that a manager at her store refused to let her stack a Target store coupon with a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item. I’ve never found this to be the case (although I have come across misinformed cashiers), so I set off in search of an official Target corporate coupon policy.

Not surprisingly, I didn’t find an official policy online. Walmart is one of the few stores that I’m aware of that has the corporate policy in black and white and publicly accessible. I came across a few sites that had a Target coupon policy listed that they had received from Guest Relations, but as they had not been posted recently, I decided to email Target Guest Relations myself to get the most current version.

They were very speedy with their response, and here is the information I received.

Thanks for asking us about using coupons at Target. Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores. Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target.

When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:

  • We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued and manufacturer-issued.
  • We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
  • We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we’re able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.
  • We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
  • All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.

For questions about using a specific coupon, we encourage you to stop by Guest Service and ask to speak with the Guest Service Team Leader. They’ll do their best to help while you’re in the store. If you still have questions after speaking with them, please call our Guest Relations team at (800) 440-0680. Either way, we’re here to help!

I’d suggest printing this out and carrying it with you when shopping or at least keeping the Guest Relations phone number handy for disputes.

Join Parentricity: New Social Network for Parents

August 22, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski Leave a Comment

I ran across this site today and thought it would be useful for my readers. Parentricity is a brand new (FREE!) social network that brings together parents all over the world for fun, advice, and sense of connection. I know as a mom of five I could use a little adult interaction throughout the day. Often the only adult voice I hear is my own until DH gets home from work, LOL!

They’re giving away some great prizes to promote their site right now, including a Tike Tech Stroller just for registering. Be sure to check out their contest page to enter the “Best Kids Summer Photo” contest, as well!

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Bloggy Business: Month Two Recap

August 22, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 8 Comments

This should have been done about a week ago, but better late than never I say! It’s been a wild and crazy month, and I still haven’t had time to stop and catch my breath. So much has happened in such a short time, I’m not even sure where to start.

My subscriber count skyrocketed this month! I know there’s lots of freebie and deals blogs out there, so I’m very honored that you feel my blog is worthy of being on your list of daily reads. If you’re new to my site, you can subscribe via RSS or email to the Deal Seeking Mom feed and get daily updates with all of my posts.

Deal Seeking Mom was featured in the Columbus Dispatch recently in an article on shopping for back-to-school supplies titled Parents’ Smarts Pay Off in Stores. If you found my blog through this article, I hope you’ll stick around. I’ve got some irons in the fire for offering more local deals in addition to the national deals!

I also announced my involvement as one of the 12 Walmart Money Saving Moms, aka the “Eleven Moms.” I’m thrilled to be a part of this project, and I’ve mentioned several times that I have an exciting giveaway to roll out in conjunction with this. I’m super excited to tell you that I’ll be giving one lucky reader their very own Flip Video Camera (provided by Pure Digital and Walmart)!!! Look for that contest along with my very first vlog in the next few days . . .

Photobucket Photobucket

Two wonderful readers nominated me for awards on their blogs! Thanks so much to Penny Pinching Parent and Justine’s Frugal Finds for your encouragement!!! Nominations will be forthcoming.

Finally, I want to thank everyone that has linked to me in a post on their blog or in a blogroll. Community is so important in the blogosphere, and I greatly appreciate each and every mention. My top ten referrers from the past month are :

  • Money Saving Mom
  • Keeping the Kingdom First
  • The “Cent”sible Sawyer
  • Be CentsAble
  • Baby Cheapskate
  • Rocks in My Dryer
  • Freebies4Mom
  • Cherry Picker
  • Free 2 Be Frugal
  • Amy’s Life

A special thanks goes out to each of you, and I hope that my readers will take the time to check out your blogs as well. Will you make my next top ten list???

So what’s coming up in the next month? Aside from the Flip giveaway I mentioned earlier, I have some other great giveaways in the works. I’m also hoping to add a few more stores to my coverage once my boys start school, so I’m open to reader input as to which ones you’d like to see covered. Just leave me a comment!

Finally, I’m tossing around the idea of having my site redesigned for a little more professional look. I’d really value your feedback on that, as well as any suggestions for excellent designers at reasonable prices.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
