My favorite money-saving meal is when a chuck roast goes on sale for $1.49 /lb. I cook it in my slow-cooker with whatever I feel like at that time. Maybe a potroast with carrots and potatoes. Or maybe I’ll add some red wine, worcheshire, a little grilling seasoning. Sides are mashed potatoes and a veggie, both already in my pantry, not costing me any extra. This easily feeds my family of five for way under $5!

at our local store I can find meat marked down pretty low, so its usually whatever we can find for cheap meat, and what I’ve stock piled in the pantry from sales/coupons/clearance, and mix it together, maybe some cheese and call it a meal, and since I cant ever seem to remember what I did the last time, I’m always making things differently with different sauces or dressings, etc…
Anyway with 5 sons I cant usually please everyone for every meal, so there is always a good dose of ketchup or bbq sauce available : )

My favorite easy and inexpensive meal I have had since childhood when my mother would make it. Hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes ( or rice ). I fry up my hamburger meat with diced onions, drain, add flour and brown a little more, then add water to desired thickness.

My favorite inexpensive “meal” is Chicken quesadillas. Just a few ingredients that we always have on hand and so easy. The kids also like to make their own version of “traveling tacos”. This consists of tortilla chips, cheese, meat and sour cream. Put a pile of each on their plate and let them make their own mini “tacos”.

i make baked spaghetti.
i use hunts spaghetti sauce (usually on sale for a $1.00)
angel hair pasta (cremette is pretty good and cheap)
shredded mozeralla cheese (get on sale for $1.50/bag 4cups)
boil noodles-drain, add a tad of butter to noodles and sauce and the cheese save a little for topping and bake. its prob somewhere around $5.00 for a casserole size meal.

I make soup. I put in frozen veggies, dried lentils & barley, beans, edamame, and some fresh veggies in a big pot.
