Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. This summer, they want to encourage kids to read — and enjoy doing it — with a fun reading challenge/ Have your child under 12 years old sign up at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!
Harper Collins has this tip for helping kids enjoy reading:
Bring Your Book to Life!
A good book lets your child’s imagination run free to visit new worlds. After your child reads a book, help him or her to use other creative parts of their brain and build the world even more by acting out their favorite scene from the book. It’s a great way to have family fun on a summer night, or to bring together your child’s friends on a rainy afternoon. Even better, video the performance and you’ll have a great memory to revisit later!
Here are a few tips:
- Have your child imagine what the book would look like as a movie
- Let them design what the scenery would look like
- Encourage your child to choose their favorite character, and explain why
- And have fun!

My kids have a hard time getting enough books to read. I like to get them used books from thrift stores & garage sales. This way they don’t need returned to the library & they can read at their leisure. I am lucky, they love it.
Sarah
My kids love to read, so it’s not a struggle. Though sometimes they like to read the same book over and over and over again, which can get a little tiring.

I follow on FB, subscribe to email and I am a forum member. My challenge with my 2.5 yr old is that he wants to get right through a story… not sit and listen for very long… so I have him “read” them to me with his made up language.

My son is four so the only challenge I face right now is getting him to pay attention long enough and not get distracted. He loves to read though! Just takes us awhile to get through a book.

My kids tend to get distracted by all the technological gizzmos we have these days.

I don’t have much of a problem, the only thing I can think of is getting to read non-fiction. They tend to check-out at the library or a book store all of the fiction books and comics. I have to encourage them to read the books about China, space, or animals, etc.

I have no problem getting my 13 year old to read – I have a harder time getting him away from books! The challenge with my 4 year old (5 tomorrow!) is that he can’t read yet, and my voice doesn’t hold out very long trying to read to him. So he doesn’t get a lot of books read to him. I think that will change, though, once he learns to read this coming school year. We are a family of readers!

Ha the biggest challenge is getting more new and interesting books to entertain the kids. LOL All they want to do is read. I have to beg them to go outside and play!

A wide selection of books at the house helps
