Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As schools let out for summer, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. Getting kids to do anything that isn’t on a bike, in a pool or in front of the TV during summer break can sometimes be a daunting task, yet continued reading is important for their minds to continue to grow and bend. Have your child under 12 years old sign up for the challenge at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!

HarperCollins and Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot, have provided this week’s tip for getting kids to read:
“If you want to inspire your boy reader, expand your definition of reading to include non-fiction, graphic novels, funny books, wordless books, audio books and magazines. Summer reading is a great time to explore texts that aren’t covered/allowed in school reading.”
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $100 Borders Gift Card!
To enter, tell me one way you get your kids to read over the summer. What tips and tricks can you share that have them turning off the TV and opening a book?
Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

I have limited TV for my daughter from the very beginning. We read books everyday before we go to bed and she loves it. Taking trips to library and bookstores to read new interesting books for their age group would definitely create the curiosity and have them read the book.

I have announced prizes for completing a book like going out for a bowling game or renting a movie for them to watch.

My tips – I set a goal for the number of books I will read this summer, too. Also, our library (in addition to Borders, etc.) gives away free stuff, such as free admission to her favorite water park, etc. This motivated her!

We reward our son with watching some TV if he sits down to read a book. Sometimes we don’t even have to do that. A lot of times we’ll find him in his room “reading” his books by himself. He’s only 4 so he can’t read yet, but he likes to pretend!

We have reading time every day at our house. Its all quiet, no tv, no games, no computer. Only reading time. The kids love it.

We read together at nap time. The house is quiet and we are ready to relax! It’s perfect.

I take them to our local library. They each have their own library card and love to go and check out books.

My twin girls age 9 read a lot of chapter books and my son age 3 like for us to read him discovery book about animals. I am currently reading the Little House on the Prairie series to them all at bedtime. They love to listen and take tuns reading the stories with me.

Our local library does a great job motivating kids to read with fun summer programs and different prizes for reading a certain number of books. This summer there is even a junior high book club!

My kids are required by their school to read so I just tell them they don’t have a choice if they want good grades….that is motivation enough!

Set a reading time schedule in … where both the kids and the parents read. It had helped me growing up, seeing my parents read.
