Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As schools let out for summer, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. Getting kids to do anything that isn’t on a bike, in a pool or in front of the TV during summer break can sometimes be a daunting task, yet continued reading is important for their minds to continue to grow and bend. Have your child under 12 years old sign up for the challenge at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!

HarperCollins and Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot, have provided this week’s tip for getting kids to read:
“If you want to inspire your boy reader, expand your definition of reading to include non-fiction, graphic novels, funny books, wordless books, audio books and magazines. Summer reading is a great time to explore texts that aren’t covered/allowed in school reading.”
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $100 Borders Gift Card!
To enter, tell me one way you get your kids to read over the summer. What tips and tricks can you share that have them turning off the TV and opening a book?
Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

I have told my daughter to read for charity. She can take the free book and donate it when our local school has a book drive. We’ve signed up for the Borders summer reading program too, so at the end of the summer she’ll have two books to donate.

I tell my kids that they have to read every day no matter what! They can do this anywhere, whether we are driving somewhere, hanging out outside, it doesn’t matter. If it gets late in the day and they haven’t done it yet, I can tell them they can do it then or no more tv, playing, the rest of the night. That gets them motivated (and the free book at borders/barnes and noble and the book club at the library, seem to help as well)!!

We make multiple library trips each week, participate in our library’s story time, as well as their Summer reading program, and this year we plan to participate in several reading programs sponsored by area bookstores.

I do it myself – if they see me do it, they want to do it too!

We have a strict rule during the summer: The TV is on for only 1 hour per day. This encourages my girls to read. We also spend a lot of time browsing book store shelves. The girls write down titles they are interested in and then go to the library to rent them.

Find books on subjects they ask about, even if it’s snakes, bugs, or spiders.

My daughters feel like its a privilege to “skip” nap (their 3 year old brother takes each day) & use that time to read…we also cuddle up in bed each night & spend 30 min or so reading… Another way we sneak in reading time is in the car.l.ots of books stashed in there to keep them busy! We love going to the library too! My girls LOVE reading & we try our best to create opportunities for them to continue their love for reading :)

We make reading as fun as possible, complete with funny voices, etc. We also take her to story time at the library and read at bed time.

Read to your children when they are very young and they will learn to love reading. My 18 month old loves when we read to him and he likes to flip through the pages and “read” by himself too.
