Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As schools let out for summer, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. Getting kids to do anything that isn’t on a bike, in a pool or in front of the TV during summer break can sometimes be a daunting task, yet continued reading is important for their minds to continue to grow and bend. Have your child under 12 years old sign up for the challenge at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!

HarperCollins and Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot, have provided this week’s tip for getting kids to read:
“If you want to inspire your boy reader, expand your definition of reading to include non-fiction, graphic novels, funny books, wordless books, audio books and magazines. Summer reading is a great time to explore texts that aren’t covered/allowed in school reading.”
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $100 Borders Gift Card!
To enter, tell me one way you get your kids to read over the summer. What tips and tricks can you share that have them turning off the TV and opening a book?
Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

My boys love going to the library and getting to pick out new books. It’s wonderful watching them try to just pick out 4-5 books. I always have to reassure them that we will be back for more!

My kids love to go to the library! We try to have “reading time” everyday, where everyone lays down in the floor and reads a book of their choosing. We also read stories at bedtime.
Wendy
My daughter loves to read anyway. I have to make her go to sleep at night! It just runs in the family. When kids see you reading they just do it naturally.

I guess I am lucky that mine don’t like to watch tv too much, but they don’t like to read either ! Threats usually work in order to get the summer reading done.

At our house when you get up you make your bed and then read for 30 minutes. Then it is breakfast time. It works great because if they are hungry they will read. I also limit how much time they can do anything electronic, so when they have filled their quota and need a break from outside, all they have left to do is read. And out of 6 at least 4 will pick up a book when they are bored. :)

Start early. We have read with my son everynight since he was a baby. We take to the library and let him pick what every he wants, up to 20 books at the time! Also, we offer books as rewards and treats.

We trade a movie for each book read. :-) Thanks!

My son never reads more than when we go camping, out in the woods it’s our family activity of choice when it gets too dark to run around. SO! To get him to read more during the stay-home months, we set up a huge tent made of bedsheets in our living room and pretend we’re out in the forest where t.v.’s don’t exist, and therefore, we can’t watch them! I even make toasted marshmallows on our stove top. We would put this gift card to great use!

We have days scheduled in the summer as reading days. It is required for my boys to read for at least one hour on that day. I also take them to the library to check out some new books. Also, at night, I read to them from classic books. This summer we will be reading Treasure Island and Swiss Family Robinson.

They love to do the summer reading programs at our library when they get prizes for reading so many hours.

We join reading competitions at the library, online, and anyplace else. My children love the idea of earning prizes as they turn in reading logs! A $100 Borders gift card would be a fantastic prize for our whole family! Thanks for offering it.
