Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As schools let out for summer, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. Getting kids to do anything that isn’t on a bike, in a pool or in front of the TV during summer break can sometimes be a daunting task, yet continued reading is important for their minds to continue to grow and bend. Have your child under 12 years old sign up for the challenge at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!

HarperCollins and Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot, have provided this week’s tip for getting kids to read:
“If you want to inspire your boy reader, expand your definition of reading to include non-fiction, graphic novels, funny books, wordless books, audio books and magazines. Summer reading is a great time to explore texts that aren’t covered/allowed in school reading.”
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $100 Borders Gift Card!
To enter, tell me one way you get your kids to read over the summer. What tips and tricks can you share that have them turning off the TV and opening a book?
Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

Reading stories together and doing voices for different characters is a great way to get children interested in reading over the summer.

My grandkids love me to read to them. I always buy books at garage sales because they are so cheap and I can buy new ones each week. They are anxious to see what new books I have when they come.

my son is 14 months old and we have read to him since he was in my belly. We make it a point to read every night before bed but he loves being read to so much he brings us books all day to read. I LOVE that he has a passion for reading just like his mommy!

Well my daughter is only 3 1/2 but she loves for me to read to her. We read every night before bed. She has several books memorized that she will read to me! I loved to read as a child, still do. Now I’m passing that love onto her.

My girls are ages 1 & 3 and can’t yet read on their own, but we read to them twice a day… visiting the library to pick out new books is always a treat!

Magazines. My older son HATES to read. This is how I sneak it in. I get magazines that are of interest to him; video game magazines, fishing, hunting or cars. He is reading and doesn’t even realize it! =D

I’m lucky. Right now my girls would rather read than watch TV. I think they key is to keep books around and they love taking trips to the library! Hopefully they will stay this way!

I am a homeschooler. We have quiet reading time every day. It was not always popular until I started a new program. “Books for Movies.” When new movies are coming soon and I see that they are based on books I assign those books as required reading. When they finish reading them we go to see that movie. “How To Drain Your Dragon” has an amazing series of books so does “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief “. Starting this program has really helped my kids realize that reading is fun. Now my oldest often spends three hours a day doing silent reading. We homeschool year around so silent reading continues to be a part of our day.

I used to bean avid reader – before kids. I find that motivating my kids to read sometimes is as simple as me picking up a book and reading for a while.

I read with my 11 year old. He loves books that in series so when he’s done, I read the book and then we can talk about it. This works well with the 39 Clues books that have a web component too, but we’ve done it with all kinds of series,

My son is three and we have been reading to and with him since he was an infant. Now we have a ritual of reading at least one book everynight. We go to the library and let him pick out the books that interest him!

my daughter will be learning to read this fall in kindergarten. She already loves to read and look at pictures. We always sit together and she “reads” me the story.. making up her own just by looking at the pictures. This would be a great a prize for us.. so we can expand our library!
Misty
We go to the library and I let the kids choose what looks interesting to them.

Buy things your kids are interested in! I have a 3.5 and he loves chapter books and we read books for about 2 hours a day, whatever he wants. He doesn’t want to read things like Catcher in the Rye he wants to read things like Goosebumps because thats his interest and I fullfill it because as long as hes listing and focused and asking questions and I know hes paying attention Im happy!
