Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As schools let out for summer, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. Getting kids to do anything that isn’t on a bike, in a pool or in front of the TV during summer break can sometimes be a daunting task, yet continued reading is important for their minds to continue to grow and bend. Have your child under 12 years old sign up for the challenge at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!

HarperCollins and Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot, have provided this week’s tip for getting kids to read:
“If you want to inspire your boy reader, expand your definition of reading to include non-fiction, graphic novels, funny books, wordless books, audio books and magazines. Summer reading is a great time to explore texts that aren’t covered/allowed in school reading.”
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $100 Borders Gift Card!
To enter, tell me one way you get your kids to read over the summer. What tips and tricks can you share that have them turning off the TV and opening a book?
Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

The rule in my hubby’s house when he was growing up was this: all summer long, you can have as many books as you want, but can only spend $5 on toys each month (this was 30 years ago, so maybe up that value slightly lol). Any time they went to the store, he and his bro could pick out as many books as they wanted – a great way to get them reading! :)

We read every night before bed, and my daughter insists on packing books anytime we go out of town so we won’t miss a night. It’s such a part of our routine that I can’t imagine not reading with my kids.

My 2 1/2 year old loves to listen to stories. We read 3 books every night. As a teacher, I wanted to instill a love of reading so we started young.

My son is participating in the Barnes & Noble summer reading program. After he reads 8 books, he gets to pick out a free one. This motivates him to read.

Both of my kids love books, my teen has always loved to read my only problem is she reads so fast we are always at the library or book store. My toddler also loves books, so as long as we let him pick the books he will always listen to us read to him. Also for him, I keep the books on a shelf in our family room that he can reach so he always has access to them.

My kids LOVE to read, so I don’t really need incentives…but the free book offered through the summer reading programs has them reading to “earn” something, which seems to fuel the desire more!

We make a trip to the library every week and they love getting new books and of course a surprise! If they are not done with their books, they have to wait another week for their surprise.

We hit up our library several times a week. It would be great to win this card because then the kids can buy their favorite books.

I believe getting kids to read in the summer starts at an early age before they can even read themselves by reading to them from day they are born.
It just seems to come naturally for mine to pick up a book no matter what season. Summer just makes for a different and lovely environment outside.

We always participate in the library reading programs. It’s a great way to get kids to read, plus they’ve always had books in their lives from birth!

I like to read out loud to my son… and also think it’s good to have him see me reading too!

I realize that this is not the case in some (or most) households, but we’ve been blessed with avid readers in our family. They beg to sit down and read a stack of books.
