Walmart Corporate Coupon Policy

June 15, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 346 Comments

This is definitely useful information to be aware of. If you’d like to print it off so you can carry it with you (as I always do!), here’s a direct link to the Walmart corporate coupon policy.

Walmart accepts the following types of coupons (see guidelines below):

  • Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
  • Free merchandise (or Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
  • Store coupons
  • Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
  • Internet coupons
  • Soft drink container caps

The following are guidelines and limits:

  • Walmart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.
  • Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Walmart will not accept expired coupons.
  • Internet coupons should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon.” There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a scannable bar code.
  • Only one coupon per item is permitted.
  • Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by Customer Service Manager.

Although it’s not explicitly stated here, in my experience, if your total savings are more than 50% off your total purchase price, your transaction will require approval by a Customer Service manager as well.

From what I understand, regardless if they are “Catalina’s” or what have you, we are now allowed to match the PRICE shown on the coupon by adjusting or over-riding the cost of the item, just as we do when we price match items from other stores. I don’t believe we have to actually mail the coupon to anyone.

Cindy I work at walmart and we do accept catalinas. They are manufacture QS so we do send them back to manufactures!! Please read walmart coupon policy online if your store have not inform you on this matter.

Well, I went to Walmart last night armed with the policy, my Catalinas from Stop & Shop, and my Register Rewards. At the register the cashier gave me back the cats saying I could only use them at S&S. I showed her the policy and she called over the CSM. She also said no because they are S&S coupons. I tried to explain to her that they were manufacturer coupons but she just kept shaking her head no. She would not even look at the policy and said she knew what their store did and corporate was wrong. The RRs obviously didn’t fly either. She asked me if I knew what store I was in. LOL

I went to WalMart last night and had both the clerk and the CSM tell me that no way were they giving me the left over from coupons. They said the coupon was over the price of the item and they have NEVER allowed that. I was flabbergasted … even pulled up the corporate coupon policy off of their official website and showed them and they were like .. sorry. So, I asked to speak to a manager and finally got it all resolved. Apparently, they haven’t told their cashiers all about this policy yet and are having meetings this weekend. So sad that they don’t take the time to print out the one measly paragraph about the new policy and have thier cashiers read it in the maximum of five minutes it would take.

So I just had a thought about accepting “store coupons” does this include coupons such as Michaels coupons? Such as the 40% off coupons or the bonus coupons for yarn or ribbon? If so that would be awesome!

No it i not for a percentage off of your purchase.
      Walmart Policy on Competitors’ coupons
      * A specific item for a specified price, for example, $2.99
      * Buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons for items with a specified price
      * Have a valid expiration date

So, they finally introduced the new coupon/price matching policy. I now know what a catalina is. Bear with everyone while they learn how to use it.

I am so thankful that our local Walmart stores are educating their employees. I haven’t had any trouble getting overage or using catalina coupons. I’ve also heard lots of other great testimonials from my blog readers.

I am just curious as to what WalMart’s coupon policy means when they state that they do not accept print-at-home internet coupons that require no purchase. For example, does this mean that I cannot use a printable coupon for this week’s Aquafresh deal?

What it means is that they take bogo coupons but not coupons that don’t require the purchase of one item to be made in order to receive another item free. These are usually fraudulent.

Ok….I’m still a little confused. Will Wal Mart take a coupon that is printed off the Target coupon website, since these coupons don’t say manufacture coupon or whatever? Can I only use these coupons at Target? Thanks for the help!

It depends on the store the particular store. The Walmart I always shop at lets me use 2 and 3 manufacturers ( not identical) on the same product. Today a friend of mine went to a different Walmart and they wouldn’t let her. It’s the same with other stores.

    Hi,
I also work at wal-mart as a cashier and have just recently received the new coupon policy- which at first they just put on every register and didnt tell anyone it was new, so we had no idea about it. It takes a little while to get most cashiers to do anything when it doesnt go through the first time. I always print out the reciept and go through and make sure all the coupons match whats rung up, but I know several people who dont go to the trouble and argue with a customer about the coupons they have. There is alot of confusion in my store about how many coupons are able to use… I always just run them, if it says its not allowed I check and do my own look and override it. I think the fact that we price override for the store prices of other stores AND we can take other stores coupons it can be a bit overwhelming at a checkout that has alot of coupons and price matching. It helps that the customer doesnt get flustered- because afterall as a cashier we are usually the last people to know anything or any changes in the store. :)

Hello!! I am pretty new to looking for the extra savings, although I have used coupons in the past. I am just wondering if any of you could give me pointers or an idea of where to look for coupons that I can actually use. Most of the site I have found really dont have any common use coupons. Thank you all so much!

They also will not match Target’s prices. Case in point. Walmart sells “Lost: Season 6″ for $44.96. Target currently has it for $19.99(unadvertised special with rest of the series for $19.99. The CSM wouldn’t override it because it would mean that Wally World would be losing about $25 off the items regular price!! What is even stranger is that they price matched “Mad Men: Season 4 ” on DVD for $19.99 at Target without the ad!! Needless to say I’m furious at them for not price match both items from the same store!! They claim they still need to see the competitors ad!! What’s even more ironic is this item is for sale this week in Target’s ad!!

How do they expect customers to price match when a lot of people don’t get the paper and get our ads via our cell phones? Or worse we can price check items in the store as we shop!! I think that Walmart has opened up a huge can of worms with this new price match gimmick or bait and switch thing going on!! Do they think that consumers as stupid or something??

Sorry this is long, I needed to vent about this!! This incident I wrote about happened on April 15,2011

I think the distinction is that they have an ad match policy. Unadvertised specials are outside of advertised sales.

    Does Your Walmart Double Coupons?
I am just curious to see how many Wal-marts out there are actually doing this. Mine just did last night. They said because they have competitors(I guess in the area) doing it they are doing as well. They will double coupons up to $.50 so I can get $1 off with a $0.50 off coupon YAY!!!

yes. most manufacturers coupon has the number five under the barcode to identify that it is a manufactrurers coupon most store coupons do not have the number or have a different number all together. I know vons accepts three coupons for the same product as long as its one of each type of coupon. Understood?

I have not been a coupon user up to this point for all the reasons stated above. It is so confusing to me, but I am going to try to start, really need to save.

I did however price match at Walmart the other day and it went wonderfully! I even had a manger and a cashier ask for my ad to use for themselves afterwards lol (of course I was happy to hand it over and share the deal).

I price matched the following: 2 cantaloupe for $1, 5lb bags of potatoes 2 for $1 and 20 small oranges for $1. So I came home with 40 oranges, 4 cantaloupes and 20lbs of potatoes for $6, I was SO happy!

went to Walmart last night the asst mgr–MARIA in Modesto was rude and when I handed her the coupons she dragged every item out of the bags to check them. I asked her why doesn’t she just scan the coupon–after all the computer will beep if it is not happy. She wouldn’t let me stack coupons–but she wouldn’t let me use the higher value coupon, she wouldn’t give me the BOGOs and started asking me where I got the computer coupons like I was counterfitting. I did give her a look right into her eyes and said yes I did print off my computer and home–and why did she ask—after that she backed off. However after a one hour check out she found she erroneously took four coupons she shouldn’t have and wanted to cancel the order and re-ring it up. She tried to get help from another cashier, but ended up getting frustrated and put the key turned and cancelled the entire action!!! I had to ask for my coupons back–this was the first time I ever counted my coupons–and then I asked her for the rest of my coupons and gave me another stack she hadn’t realized was under the ATM area–then I asked her for the target coupons back and she had tore them up–she ended up giving me sobe drinks and crystal light drink for free because she knew. coupons were worthless. The value of those items was more than the coupons she couldn’t reverse.Ironic.

Sorry if this is repeating but I am still confused. At Walmart:
1.) Can I use coupons I print that say “target” but not “manufacture coupon”
    Anywhere:
2.) If I am doing buy one get one free, can I use two of the same coupons? Like if colgate toothpaste is BOGOF can I use 2 coupons that are .50/1 colgate toothpaste?

    Thanks so much!

    Crystal,
I dont know about using target coupons at another store,
but i do know you can use two coupons with any BOGO offer at most any store. Atleast I have with no problem. only walmart doesnt do very many BOGO sales (if any)

Everyone else- I dont really understand why all of you (well some of you) are so stuck on using your RRs and other store rebates/coupons at walmart anyway?!? If you get the coupon at that store then OBVIOUSLY you shop there, so go back and use it there. it really doesnt even make sense to use an RR at walmart! or am I the only person who thinks that is just pushing it?!
and NO i DO NOT work at walmart LOL! I am just a couponing mom who loves to save money and doesnt understand how you all manage to make it so darn aggrivating!
