Whirlpool Duet: My Favorite Amazing Innovations

January 3, 2012 by Tara Kuczykowski 7 Comments

I’ve been using the Whirlpool Duet system now for over four months now, and I have to say this washer and dryer still continue to wow me with their amazing innovations.

I mentioned back when I started this journey that our current washer and dryer set at the time was a slightly used top-loading washer and traditional dryer given to us as a housewarming gift. We quite literally used and abused that set daily… In fact, we tried to gift the washer to my mother-in-law when our new set arrived, and the bottom fell out within a week of her installing it!

So far the Whirlpool set has endured our heavy use like a champ and has saved me a a ton of headaches in the process. As I wrap up my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom!), I thought I’d take a moment to share my overall favorite features on this awesome washer and dryer set:

  • Precision Dispense Ultra System — This little detergent reservoir holds enough HE detergent to wash up to 36 loads in a single fill! I never really thought about how much time it takes to add the laundry detergent and fabric softener to the washer until I didn’t have to do it anymore. And an added bonus is saving money since I’m not over measuring! The washer senses the load and adds the precise amount of detergent to get the job done.
  • FanFresh with Dynamic Venting Technology — With our old washer and dryer, I’d frequently have to rewash loads if they sat for more than a few hours because they’d get stinky. With FanFresh, I don’t have to worry about staying up late until a load has finished washing! The built-in fan activates after the wash cycle is over, tumbling clothes every so often for up to 16 hours to keep them from smelling musty.
  • Allergen Removal Cycle — My 8-year-old has developed severe year round allergies, so I always make sure to use the allergen removal cycle when I was his bedding. I figure anything I can do to help ease his discomfort is worth it, and I really appreciate the fact that Whirlpool devoted a special cycle to this!
  • Steam-Enhanced Dryer Cycles — I have to confess that sometimes I leave clean clothes sitting in a basket just a little too long. Instead of spending a ton of time ironing them or sometimes even rewashing them, I can pop them back in the dryer for a quick refresh with a steam cycle.

Of course the Whirlpool Duet system boasts many more features — stain assist, EcoBoost, tons of custom cycles to name a few — these are the features that have benefitted our family the most over the past few months.

I have to send out a huge thank you to Whirlpool and Mom Central Consulting for giving me the opportunity to be a Whirlpool Mom. It’s been such a pleasure working with them on this project!

This is my final post in a series chronicling my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom. I’d love to hear your thoughts on laundry… Love it? Hate it? How do you keep it from becoming an overwhelming chore? Would any of these features help you streamline your laundry system?

Whirlpool Duet: Laundry Stain Assist Takes the Work out of Stain Removal

December 12, 2011 by Tara Kuczykowski 6 Comments

Overall, I actually don’t mind doing laundry — especially now that I have the Whirlpool Duet system (thanks to my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom!). It’s more the folding and putting away that I despise… But there’s still that pesky issue of stained clothing, and with five active kids, you can bet that I see plenty of stains each week.

Whirlpool has an answer for taking the work out of stain removal though! The Whirlpool Duet washer features an electronic stain assist system which take all of the guesswork out of what settings to use for removing those tough stains that kids are known to produce.

Whether you need to remove ball-point ink, pasta sauce, grass stains, or any other myriad of stains, a few simple clicks will tell you exactly what you need to know for removing the stain, keeping your clothes looking newer for longer!

A few other features of the Whirlpool Duet system that helps to protect your clothing:

  • The Whirlpool Duet dryer uses smart temperature control to help reduce shrinking and color bleeding.
  • The Whirlpool Duet washer features 6th Sense technology, which adjusts the amount of water and temperature based on one of 14 different fabric cycles, keeping your blacks black and your colors bright!
  • I’ve mentioned the Precision Dispense Ultra System before because it’s such a great money-saving feature, but it also protects your clothing by releasing bleach and fabric softener at the right time during the cycle for optimal fabric care.

Keeping clothes stain free mean that the clothes we purchase look nicer for longer, which in turn means we can hand them down to siblings and others to save more overall!

Watch for more posts chronicling my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom, but in the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts on laundry… Love it? Hate it? How do you keep it from becoming an overwhelming chore? Would any of these features help you streamline your laundry system?

Whirlpool Duet: Saving Time, Money, and Energy!

October 3, 2011 by Tara Kuczykowski 19 Comments

Last month I mentioned my excitement over being chosen as a Whirlpool Mom, which entails test driving a Whirlpool Duet Premium washer and dryer system for the next few months. I shared my initial thoughts and favorite features on the machines, but this month I want to share more about just how much time, money, and energy this fantastic duo can save you!

Fantastic duo kind of makes them sound like they’re super heroes, doesn’t it? I guess they kind of are in my book, because anything that can save in so many areas is a real lifesaver for me!

The Whirlpool Duet system is the industry’s most resource efficient laundry pair. They work in tandem to make the entire process more efficient by using faster spin speeds in the washer and sensors in the dryer. Now if only I had a robomaid to load the clothes and put them away clean… Oh wait, I guess that’s what kids are for!

But seriously, here are a few facts on the savings the Whirlpool Duet system can net:

  • The Whirlpool Duet washer uses as little as 11.5 gallons of water per load and exceeds the minimum federal standard for energy selling requirements by more than 160% on average. To put this in perspective, a typical top loader washing machine uses a whopping 40 gallons of water per load! This would save the average family more than 12,587 gallons of water per year.
  • You can save as much as $3,300 in lifetime energy costs, which would more than pay for this system. Utilize the washer and dryer’s eco-cycles to save even more.
  • The Whirlpool Duet dryer has a 7.4 cu. ft. capacity which means you can dry more laundry at a time, faster and more efficiently. Sensors are used to determine when the clothes are dry and the machine will shut off automatically.

All in all this means that keeping up with my laundry is no longer and insurmountable task! Now I just need to figure out how to keep up with putting away my fresh, clean laundry.

Whirlpool Duet Premium Laundry Test Drive

September 13, 2011 by Tara Kuczykowski 24 Comments

Laundry is a never-ending task around here. We received a slightly used top-loading washer and traditional dryer as a housewarming gift from my dad when we moved into our home seven years ago, and in those seven years, they’ve taken quite a beating. Averaging around 2-3 loads per day, we knew that they probably weren’t going to hang in there much longer; however, purchasing a new laundry system wasn’t a purchase we were currently budgeting for.

So when Whirlpool asked if we’d like to test drive the Whirlpool Duet Premium washer and dryer system, of course I jumped at the opportunity…literally. I could hardly contain myself and ran outside looking for my husband to tell him the good news!

Our Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer were delivered about a month ago (aren’t they gorgeous?!?), and I’ve been in seventh heaven ever since. I simply could not have imagined just how much a washer and dryer upgrade could change our lives. Our laundry process has been streamlined immensely, and our clothes are cleaner than ever, all while using less detergent, water, and electricity.

Let me just share a few of my favorite features:

  • Large 4.3 cu. ft. Capacity — This means I can wash almost twice as many pairs of jeans at a time versus my old washer. Or I can fit two twin comforters, plus the sheets and and mattress pads, allowing me to change the be linens in one room in half the time.
  • Precision Dispense Ultra — The automatic laundry detergent dispenser takes the guesswork out of measuring laundry detergent out. So many people use far too much because they either can’t read the faint lines in the liquid detergent caps or they’re overestimating the amount they need for a given load. I was absolutely shocked to find that a single bottle of detergent last us almost three weeks, unheard of in this house!
  • FanFresh with Dynamic Venting Tech — What’s that you ask? It simple means that the washer will continue to fluff the clothes for up to 16 hours after a wash cycle to keep them smelling clean and fresh. No matter how many times I cleaned our old washer, leaving the clothes sit in it for more than a few hours left them smelling slightly stale and musty. Now I can put a load in before bed and be confident that they’ll still be dryer-ready in the morning.
  • 6th Sense Technology — This technology actually senses the size of a load and automatically adjusts the amount of detergent and water used to save on resources all around. However, it’s also more gentle on your clothing, keeping it looking newer for longer.
  • Steam-enhanced Dryer Cycles — I’ll readily admit that I’m a little lazy about ironing, and I’ve been known to throw wrinkled clothes in the dryer with a damp towel on numerous occasions. I don’t need to do that anymore, because I can just pop them in the dryer on the steam cycle and it refreshes and removes the wrinkles for me while I take care of other business.

But you know what my number one favorite feature about the Whirlpool Duet Premium washer and dryer system is? It makes my hubby want to help out with the laundry more. He’s fascinated with all of the gadgets and settings and is always telling me about a new feature that he found. Gotta love it!
