I’ve been using the Whirlpool Duet system now for over four months now, and I have to say this washer and dryer still continue to wow me with their amazing innovations.
I mentioned back when I started this journey that our current washer and dryer set at the time was a slightly used top-loading washer and traditional dryer given to us as a housewarming gift. We quite literally used and abused that set daily… In fact, we tried to gift the washer to my mother-in-law when our new set arrived, and the bottom fell out within a week of her installing it!
So far the Whirlpool set has endured our heavy use like a champ and has saved me a a ton of headaches in the process. As I wrap up my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom!), I thought I’d take a moment to share my overall favorite features on this awesome washer and dryer set:
- Precision Dispense Ultra System — This little detergent reservoir holds enough HE detergent to wash up to 36 loads in a single fill! I never really thought about how much time it takes to add the laundry detergent and fabric softener to the washer until I didn’t have to do it anymore. And an added bonus is saving money since I’m not over measuring! The washer senses the load and adds the precise amount of detergent to get the job done.
- FanFresh with Dynamic Venting Technology — With our old washer and dryer, I’d frequently have to rewash loads if they sat for more than a few hours because they’d get stinky. With FanFresh, I don’t have to worry about staying up late until a load has finished washing! The built-in fan activates after the wash cycle is over, tumbling clothes every so often for up to 16 hours to keep them from smelling musty.
- Allergen Removal Cycle — My 8-year-old has developed severe year round allergies, so I always make sure to use the allergen removal cycle when I was his bedding. I figure anything I can do to help ease his discomfort is worth it, and I really appreciate the fact that Whirlpool devoted a special cycle to this!
- Steam-Enhanced Dryer Cycles — I have to confess that sometimes I leave clean clothes sitting in a basket just a little too long. Instead of spending a ton of time ironing them or sometimes even rewashing them, I can pop them back in the dryer for a quick refresh with a steam cycle.
Of course the Whirlpool Duet system boasts many more features — stain assist, EcoBoost, tons of custom cycles to name a few — these are the features that have benefitted our family the most over the past few months.
I have to send out a huge thank you to Whirlpool and Mom Central Consulting for giving me the opportunity to be a Whirlpool Mom. It’s been such a pleasure working with them on this project!
This is my final post in a series chronicling my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom. I’d love to hear your thoughts on laundry… Love it? Hate it? How do you keep it from becoming an overwhelming chore? Would any of these features help you streamline your laundry system?
I wrote this review while participating in a test-drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a complimentary Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to facilitate my review.

I bought Whirlpool WFW9150 front loading washer with its matching dryer one year ago and have been DISSATISFIED ever since. Within the first few months the washer discolored and Whirlpool said “too bad, so sad” and would not stand behind their product. It also does not wash as well as my 20-yr-old top loader. Today I noticed that hot water was coming into the drum when I chose cold water wash. I called them and they said “that is normal.” I am totally dissatisfied with Whirlpool.

I also have had mine for going on two years now and hate it. You would think for the kind of money they cost they would work great. Mine goes off balance any time I wash a blanket, towels or a lot of jeans. Yes it does self balance but only after shaking everything off it onto the floor. Then it will repeat the process overe and over sometimes taking an extra hour to finish. The only good thing is they are pretty.

I don’t normally leave negative comments about products – but, I really don’t like my Duet Front Load Washer & Dryer set that I purchased about 3 yrs ago. It’s a PAIN to try to keep clean… I follow the recommended cleaning instructions twice a month (instead of once a month…) – & it’s still NOT enough! Ugh!!
Nice to know they may have improved the technology – it just doesn’t seem right that I have to be willing to take a big $$$ loss to change my situation. I don’t think I’ll be willing to buy front load again because of this!!

I had a duet set and got rid of them about 2 years ago for my family’s health. I went back to the top loading and have never been happier. These sets cost more and they are more work to keep clean. If you dont clean it with affresh tablets you will start to smell a moldy smell in the washer and ON YOUR CLOTHES! Also, you have to keep the door of the washer open at all times when it is not washing or your washing machine will grow mold in the rubber gasket around the door. Mine had mold where I could see it but even worse – where I couldnt! The technician came out and pulled the rubber gasket out. I took pictures because it was so disgusting! This product is not a good investment in my opinion.

I’ve had my set since October 29, and I *LOVE* mine! :D The only problem that I have had, was that the dryer started “thumping”…turns out there was a small dent on the left side panel, that was *right* where the stabilizing rubber stopper on the drum was, so every time it passed, it thumped. LOL The technician smoothed out the bump, and it’s perfect once again.
I have to say that I think Extended Warranty for a product this expensive is sooooo worth it. I bought my set at Sears, and part of the warranty is they do a yearly servicing on it, to make sure everything is running correctly. Even if I never make any other service calls for it, this alone would make it worth the money! It’s like insurance. If you don’t use it, that’s fine, but if you do have to use it, you will be so thankful it’s already paid for.
