Whirlpool Duet Premium Laundry Test Drive

September 13, 2011 by Tara Kuczykowski 24 Comments

Laundry is a never-ending task around here. We received a slightly used top-loading washer and traditional dryer as a housewarming gift from my dad when we moved into our home seven years ago, and in those seven years, they’ve taken quite a beating. Averaging around 2-3 loads per day, we knew that they probably weren’t going to hang in there much longer; however, purchasing a new laundry system wasn’t a purchase we were currently budgeting for.

So when Whirlpool asked if we’d like to test drive the Whirlpool Duet Premium washer and dryer system, of course I jumped at the opportunity…literally. I could hardly contain myself and ran outside looking for my husband to tell him the good news!

Our Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer were delivered about a month ago (aren’t they gorgeous?!?), and I’ve been in seventh heaven ever since. I simply could not have imagined just how much a washer and dryer upgrade could change our lives. Our laundry process has been streamlined immensely, and our clothes are cleaner than ever, all while using less detergent, water, and electricity.

Let me just share a few of my favorite features:

  • Large 4.3 cu. ft. Capacity — This means I can wash almost twice as many pairs of jeans at a time versus my old washer. Or I can fit two twin comforters, plus the sheets and and mattress pads, allowing me to change the be linens in one room in half the time.
  • Precision Dispense Ultra — The automatic laundry detergent dispenser takes the guesswork out of measuring laundry detergent out. So many people use far too much because they either can’t read the faint lines in the liquid detergent caps or they’re overestimating the amount they need for a given load. I was absolutely shocked to find that a single bottle of detergent last us almost three weeks, unheard of in this house!
  • FanFresh with Dynamic Venting Tech — What’s that you ask? It simple means that the washer will continue to fluff the clothes for up to 16 hours after a wash cycle to keep them smelling clean and fresh. No matter how many times I cleaned our old washer, leaving the clothes sit in it for more than a few hours left them smelling slightly stale and musty. Now I can put a load in before bed and be confident that they’ll still be dryer-ready in the morning.
  • 6th Sense Technology — This technology actually senses the size of a load and automatically adjusts the amount of detergent and water used to save on resources all around. However, it’s also more gentle on your clothing, keeping it looking newer for longer.
  • Steam-enhanced Dryer Cycles — I’ll readily admit that I’m a little lazy about ironing, and I’ve been known to throw wrinkled clothes in the dryer with a damp towel on numerous occasions. I don’t need to do that anymore, because I can just pop them in the dryer on the steam cycle and it refreshes and removes the wrinkles for me while I take care of other business.

But you know what my number one favorite feature about the Whirlpool Duet Premium washer and dryer system is? It makes my hubby want to help out with the laundry more. He’s fascinated with all of the gadgets and settings and is always telling me about a new feature that he found. Gotta love it!

Watch for more posts chronicling my stint as a Whirlpool Test Drive Mom, but in the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts on laundry… Love it? Hate it? How do you keep it from becoming an overwhelming chore? Would any of these features help you streamline your laundry system?

I wrote this review while participating in a test-drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a complimentary Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to facilitate my review.

The larger capicity and the steam function would definitly help my family. I feel like I do laundry every night after work/school. We are currently looking to replace our 10 year old used set, but are finding the ones with all these nice features outside our budget.

I would love that washer and dryer. I like the large capacity and the dynamic venting. My husband always starts a load to wash and forgets to put it in the dryer. I like the steam function in the dryer.

How did you get them to give you one to test?

I’ve owned a whirlpool set for about 2 years now. I was so skeptical at first because I had always used a top loading machine. But I love my set and would not go back. I read many reviews before purchasing and have had no trouble with my set. I always leave the washer door open so it doesn’t get that musty, damp smell and use affresh tablets every 2 months or so. Glad your enjoying your set.

I have had a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer for over 5 yrs and love them. I will give you one warning however. Do not stuff it. They will tell you you can, but items such as towes and jeans get extremly heavy, and will eventually wear out the web. It’s part of the support system that holds the drum. It cost about $500 to replace. I was never warned and stuffed it constantly (by stuff, I mean filled completely, not packing), and ours is almost gone. Now I do about 1/2 the load I used to, but it still does more laundry at that than our top loader did.

We have the whirlpool cabrio 7800 series w&d..I couldn’t give up the top load. I’ve heard multiple complaints about front loads smelling dingy over time. We only have one load of laundry every three days. It’s wonderful!

I love mine too. I skipped the top loaders and got these (Washer and Dryer.) I save about $20 a month on water, then more electric, because it uses less then the others. My neighbors are jealous. :) My clothes come out so clean and smelling nice. I know if I could write a blog about them, I would because anyone that does a ton of laundry can tell you, it makes your life easier. The cost upfront is small compared to how much I’ve saved over 5 years. Actually, after the 1 year, the savings on water and electricity have paid for extra it cost. So basically, it ends up saving you more on utilities after the 1st year. I haven’t had 1 problem so far with both washer and dryer. I love them!! It’s any families best friend!!!!!

Hated mine. Went back to a regular front loader. If you cant leave the door open on the washer between loads you WILL have mold on the rubber ring around the door (sometimes you cant see it unless you take the ring out). Let me assure you if you smell mold you have it! And guess what you are washing your clothes in …MOLD. It takes more upkeep than a front loader too. See the comment above about Affresh tablets. The tablets are not cheap. Just my 2 cents.

Well Ive become very organized with laundry. It didn’t happen overnight though. : ) I bought tall plastic hampers to sort out laundry into darks, whites, lights, and towels. That way they are presorted so I don’t have to sort all the laundry on my own. Each day I grab one of the hampers and do a load of laundry. I think the worst part about laundry is putting it away. If your closet isn’t organized then it becomes a chore to put laundry away. For socks and underwear I bought these fabric boxes to go into the drawers to keep them nice and organized. I also bought those hangers that you can hang more then one item on….like stacking. Another thing I did was to slowly switch our socks. We all wear the same brand of sock for easy sorting….we each have a different brand. I don’t hate laundry anymore. : ) I just found a way to make it easier.

    Thanks,
    Kristine
