Consumer Recalls: Surge Protectors

American Power Conversion (APC), now known as Schneider Electric IT Corp., of West Kingston, R.I. has announced a recall of APC SurgeArrest Surge Protectors because they can can overheat, smoke and melt, posing a fire hazard. The recall involves APC 7 and 8 series SurgeArrest Surge Protectors manufactured before 2003. The model and serial numbers are located on a label on the bottom of the surge protector and the two numbers that follow the first letter or letters in the serial number sequence indicate the year of manufacture. The unit is included in the recall if the numbers are 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01 or 02. APC and the words Personal, Professional, Performance or Network are printed on the surge protectors. For a complete list of recalled model numbers go here. The affected surge protectors were sold at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, and other stores nationwide from January,1993 through December,2002 for between $13 and $50.

Consumer Recalls: Dehumidifiers

Gree recalls 12 brands of dehumidifiers because they can overheat, smoke and catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. The recall involves 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65 and 70-pint dehumidifiers with brand names Danby, De’Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima. For recalled model numbers and date codes see here). The brand name and the pint capacity are printed on the front of the dehumidifier. The model number and date code are printed on a sticker on the back, front or side of the unit. The dehumidifiers are white, beige, gray or black plastic and measure between 19 and 24 inches tall, 13 and 15 inches wide, and 9 and 11 inches deep.

Consumers should immediately turn off and unplug the dehumidifiers and contact Gree toll-free at (866) 853-2802 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET, or online and click on Recall for more information.to receive a full refund.

Consumer Recall: Baby Einstein Activity Jumpers

A recall has been issued on Baby Einstein Activity Jumpers because the “sun” toy attachment on the activity jumper can rebound with force and injure the infant, posing an impact hazard. The recall includes Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumpers with model number 90564. The model number can be found on a tag attached to the underside of the seat. The affected jumpers were sold at Target, Toys R Us and other retails stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com between May 2010 and May 2013 for about $90.

Consumers should contact Kids II toll-free at (877) 325-7056 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.kidsii.com, then click on the Recall link at the bottom of the page for more information.

Consumer Recalls: Strollers & Children's PajamasThere have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Strollers

Bugaboo International B.V., of Amsterdam, The Netherlands announced a voluntary recall of Bugaboo Cameleon and Bugaboo Donkey Model Strollers because a button on the stroller’s carrycot/seat carry handle can become disengaged and cause the handle to detach, posing fall and choking hazards to young children. The recall involves the carry handles on Bugaboo Cameleon and Bugaboo Donkey model strollers with detachable carrycots/seats. The strollers were sold with a base, sun canopy and other accessories in various colors. A fabric tag on the side of the sun canopy has Bugaboo and the model name. Strollers included in the recall have a serial number that falls within the range listed here. Serial numbers are printed on the stroller’s chassis, located under the carrycot/seat. The affected strollers were sold at Buy Buy Baby, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Toys R Us and other baby product stores nationwide, online at Bugaboo.com and other online retailers. The Bugaboo Cameleon was sold between September 2009 and June 2012 for about $980. The Bugaboo Donkey was sold from January 2011 through December 2012 for between $1,200 and $1,600.

Consumers should immediately remove the carry handle from the strollers and contact Bugaboo for a free replacement handle. Consumers can continue to use the strollers while awaiting the replacement handle. Children’s Two-Piece Pajama Sets

Target Corp., of Minneapolis, Minn. announced a voluntary recall of Children’s two-piece Pajama Sets because the cotton or cotton/fleece pajamas sets fail to meet the federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, because they do not meet the tight-fitting sizing requirements. This poses a burn hazard to children. This recall involves Target Circo and Xhilaration children’s cotton or cotton/fleece two-piece pajama sets. They were sold in infant and toddler sizes 12M, 2T, 3T, 4T and 5T, and in girls and boys sizes XS, S, M, L and XL. There are a variety of colors and designs, including stars, dots, skulls, peace signs, cats, owls, footballs and camouflage. To see a complete list of item numbers included in this recall, go here. The item number is located on a tag on the shirt’s side seam and on the pants at the waist. A tag printed on the neck of the pajamas states “Circo” or “Xhilaration”, “Wear snug-fitting not flame resistant” and the item number. The pajamas were also sold with a yellow hangtag that states, “For child’s safety, garment should fit snugly. This garment is not flame resistant. Loose-fitting garments are more likely to catch fire.” The affected pajamas were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online at target.com from August 2012 through November 2012 for between $8 and $13.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled pajamas away from children and return them to any Target for a full refund. Consumer Recalls: Rock 'N Play Infant Sleepers

Fisher-Price Inc., of East Aurora, N.Y announced a voluntary recall of Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleepers because mold can develop between the removable seat cushion and the hard plastic frame of the sleeper when it remains wet/moist or is infrequently cleaned, posing a risk of exposure to mold to infants sleeping in the product. The recall includes all Fisher-Price Rock N’ Play infant recliner seats called sleepers. The sleeper is designed for babies up to 25 pounds and is composed of a soft plastic seat held by a metal rocking frame. The product has a removable, fabric cover that is sold in 14 patterns and color palettes. The affected sleepers were sold at mass merchandise stores nationwide and online since September 2009 (units currently in retail stores are not affected by this recall) for between $50 and $85.

Consumers should immediately check for mold under the removable seat cushion. Dark brown, gray or black spots can indicate the presence of mold. If mold is found, consumers should immediately stop using the product. Consumers can contact Fisher-Price at (800) 432-5437, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online for cleaning instructions or further assistance.
