Consumer Recalls: Roman Shade Kits + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Roman Shade Kits

Wm. Wright Co., of Antioch, Tenn. announced a voluntary recall of Roman Shade Make-It-Yourself Kits because strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the shade, or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck. This recall involves all Wrights “my home make-it-yourself” Roman shade kits with item numbers 1451007001, 1451008001 or 1451008001A. The kit fits windows of a maximum size of 48” W x 60” L and includes 15 yards of Roman shade tape, 15 yards of drapery cord, 4- inch “L” brackets, 18 screws, one cord cleat and instructions. The item number and “Wm. Wright Co.” can be found on the back of the package. The affected kits were sold at Walmart, Jo-Ann Stores and other specialty textile and variety retail shops nationwide from December 2007 through June 2011 for between $20 and $25.

Consumers should immediately stop using the Roman shades and contact Wm. Wright for a free repair kit including a fabric voucher, new instructions and warning tags. Unused kits should be returned to place of purchase for a redesigned kit. For additional information, contact Wm. Consumer Recalls: Swing Sets

Adventure Playsets, of Pittsburg, KS announced a voluntary recall of approximately 240,000 Adventure Playsets Wooden Swing Sets because wood in the posts of the fort sections on the swing sets can weaken due to rotting, posing a fall hazard. The swing sets come with swings, slides and ladders. Each set has a fort structure that uses green or cranberry colored plastic coated 2”x 4” wood upright posts and a green nylon fabric covered shade. The sets were sold under the following names: Bellevue, Bellevue II, Belmont, Durango, Durango II, Sedona, Tacoma, Tacoma II, Ventura, Venture II and Yukon,. The name is printed on the manufacturer’s instructions that came with the play set. The affected swing sets were sold at Academy Sports (the Yukon); Mills and Menards (the Ventura/II) all from 2005 to 2007; Mills (the Belmont) in 2004; Toys-R-Us (the Bellevue/II); and Walmart (the Tacoma/II, Durango/II, and Sedona). The units sold for $300-$600.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled swing sets and contact Adventure Playsets to obtain a free repair kit. Repair kits will include the appropriate angled or vertical upright posts for each model with instructions for dissembling and reassembling each set. Consumer Recalls: Children's Pain & Fever Concentrated Drops + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Children’s Pain & Fever Concentrated Drops

Altaire Pharmaceuticals, Inc., of Aquebogue, N.Y, today, announced a voluntary recall of Children’s Pain & Fever Concentrated Drops because it contains acetaminophen which calls for child-resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Although the original bottle has child-resistant packaging, a separate dropper unit provided for dispensing the drug to children does not. When in use, a child can access the medicine, posing serious health problems or death if more than the recommended dosage is consumed. For a complete list of affected lot numbers, go here. The recalled drops were sold at old at drug stores, grocery stores and other retailers nationwide between January 2009 and June 2011 for about $4.

Consumers should immediately store this product with the child-resistant closure in place and keep it out of the reach of children. Strollers

Britax Child Safety Inc., of Charlotte, N.C. announced a voluntary recall of B-Nimble Strollers because an audible click heard when the brake pedal is pressed can give a false impression that the brake is fully engaged when it is not. When the brake is not engaged, the stroller can move unexpectedly posing a risk of injury to the child occupant. This recall involves B-Nimble umbrella strollers manufactured on or after August 1, 2010. Strollers included in the recall have model numbers U311771, U311773, U311775 and U311780. The date of manufacture labels and model numbers can be found on the lower frame/tube on either the left or the right side. The strollers were sold in a variety of colors including black and silver, Cowmooflage (black and white), green and red. The affected strollers were sold at juvenile product and mass merchandise stores nationwide and online retailers between September 2010 and June 2011 for about $200.

Consumers should immediately stop using their strollers and contact Britax for information and to request an improved replacement stroller. Consumers who resume use of their strollers while awaiting the replacement should always ensure that the brake is fully engaged. NAPAfire and FIREGEL Pourable Gel Fuel announced a voluntary recall of Pourable NAPAfire and FIREGEL Gel Fuel bottles and jugs because the pourable gel fuel can ignite unexpectedly and splatter onto people and objects nearby when it is poured into a firepot that is still burning. This hazard can occur if the consumer does not see the flame or is not aware that the firepot is still ignited. Fuel gel that splatters and ignites can pose fire and burn risks to consumers. The recalled gel fuel is a clear and pourable, packaged in clear one-quart plastic bottles and one-gallon plastic jugs, and sold in non-scented and citronella scents. The fuel is poured into a stainless steel cup in the center of firepots or other decorative lighting devices and ignited. The affected gel fuel was sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Shopko, Restoration Hardware, specialty and gift shops, furniture stores, and home and garden stores nationwide, as well as through amazon.com, home and garden catalogs, and home decorators and landscape architects between December 2009 and June 2011 for between $5 and $78.

Consumers should immediately stop using the pourable gel fuel in firepots and return all bottles or jugs to the retailer where purchased for a full refund. A retrofit for the Napa brand firepots is being evaluated and may be available in the near future. TrimmerPlus Edger Attachments

MTD Products Inc, of Cleveland, Ohio announced a voluntary recall of TrimmerPlus Edger Attachments because the steel shaft that drives the edger blade can break during use causing the edger blade to detach. If the blade detaches, it can hit the user or bystanders, posing a laceration hazard. This recall involves MTD TrimmerPlus™ Edger Attachment Model 41AJLE-C092 LE720. The edger is sold separately as an attachment and can be attached to most major brand attachment-capable trimmers. The edger is used to cut grass along an edge such as a driveway or sidewalk. “TrimmerPlus” and “LE720” are printed on the blade’s housing. Only certain serial numbers “1C##1DR####” through “1D##1DR####” are included in the recall. The serial number and “MTD” are printed on white labels on the edger’s pole. The recalled edger attachments were sold at Lowe’s and other hardware and home improvement stores nationwide and on the web between March 2011 and April 2011 for about $70.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled MTD TrimmerPlus™ Edgers and contact MTD to receive a free replacement. For additional information, contact the firm toll-free at (888) 848-6038 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Animated Safari and Aquarium Lamps

Nantucket Distributing Co. Inc., of Middleboro, Mass. issued a voluntary recall of Animated Safari and Aquarium Lamps because defective wiring in the lamps can cause an electrical short, posing fire and shock hazards to consumers. recall involves Safari and Aquarium themed lamps with UPC numbers 000015556905, 000015618955, 000015821591 and 000015821607 printed on the price label on the cardboard packaging. The decorative lamps are silver and feature rotating films with aquatic and safari scenes. The affected aquarium lamps were sold at Christmas Tree Shops stores primarily in the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions from December 2009 through May 2011 for between $7 and $8.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamps and return them to Christmas Tree Shops store for a full refund. For additional information, contact Christmas Tree Shops toll-free at (888) 287-3232 anytime, or visit their website.
