Two weeks ago, I told you how I was using the Palm Pre Plus to get organized.
When I first started reviewing the Palm Pre Plus, I wasn’t sure I would keep it once the review was done since there is an additional monthly fee compared to a regular cell phone. However, so many of the features — browsing the internet, accessing my Google contacts & calendars and scheduling our DVR to record a show even when we’re not home — have made everyday tasks more convenient, and while it’s certainly not a necessity, it’s a splurge that we think is worth the cost.
I’ve found myself using these features the most:
:: Camera. I’ve taken a ton of pictures with my phone, and I think my mom appreciates the chance to see more everyday moments with our baby girl — cuddling with momma while I work, her first time in the exersaucer, her first taste of banana, and so on. And the best part is most of these pictures are great quality, so I don’t feel guilty about not pulling out my nicer camera!
:: Internet browsing. Even though we live in the boonies and don’t get a strong enough cell signal to browse the internet at home, my husband has been enabling the WiFi feature to be able to keep tabs on the NFL Scouting Combine and the start of free agency.
:: Calendars & schedules. Last week we unveiled the Deal Seeking Mom calendar to help you keep track of when deals and roundups are posted. I’ve added these calendars to the personal and business calendars I already have synced with my phone so that I can quickly access my entire schedule wherever I am.
:: Music. I mentioned on Twitter that I’ve never had an MP3 before, and it’s true. Two of my girls have MP3 players and my husband has one, but I’ve never had one or even used theirs. However, I do love music, and I always have a music station playing on the TV or my computer. But with the Pandora app, I’m able to listen to the music I want to listen to right from my phone. And unlike an MP3player, I don’t even need speakers!

How would you use it to get or stay organized?
I would use the Palm Pre to access recipes while on the go and save shopping lists for my favorite recipes. This would save me time, because I would not have to refer back to my recipes and write new lists each time I want to make a specific dish.

I’ve never had a phone with a data package, but have been getting more and more excited about being able to answer emails and such on the go. I wish I had a smart phone to keep myself organized on the go. I mostly organize everything on my laptop but it’s hard to take everywhere. I do have a day planner I try to use but I stop using it for a few weeks. If I had a Palm (or other smart phone), I would definitely use the calendar and reminder/alarm functions all the time. It would help me get organized!

I love the touch feature of the Palm Pre and that it is WIFI enabled. Some phones don’t have that option and you have to pay additional for the cellular company’s internet service!

How do you use technology for streamlining and organizing your life?
I use technology constantly! For example, I completely do my budget on the computer. I get all of my bank info from my account online, and I made up a spreadsheet with all of our monthly bills on it, as well as what we make each month. That way I can see what we are able to spend each month and where.
I am into digital scrapbooking because it’s cleaner and faster. I keep my contact info for everyone saved on the computer and my cell phone so I don’t have extra papers lying around. The list goes on!

I love that it’s a touchscreen, but also has a hidden typepad! I prefer using a typepad for texting. I also love the wifi feature :) That’s definitely a bonus!

I need it to stay connected (my mom recently had a stroke and is in PA, my dad is in the hospital in FL, my sisters are in GA and LA, and we are in New England — and I am traveling all over the place!)
And to remember WHERE I AM and WHAT I am supposed to be doing. My cell phone is great (we are all on Verizon, so we can call each other on their family plan) but sometimes it is a real effort to remember when I have to be in PA to take Mom to the doctor or at home to take the kids to Girl Scouts and basketball practice.
Anyone figured out how to clone oneself yet? I sure need to know.

I love organization but am still old-school with a planner and tons of post-its! I’ve recently begun using the little stickies on the dashboard of my macbook so I think it’s time to take my planner into the 21st century, too!

I totally see this type of media devise akin to what happened to telephones in our house once they went wireless, it allowed us to do more while on the move. I would love to be able to carry a mini computer like this wherever I went!
