Did you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?
I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.
Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.
For child:
- Vicks VapoRub
- Chenille Blanket
- Soothing lullaby music
- Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince
For mom:
- Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
- L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
- Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
- Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

I rub my husband’s head and back, and put an ice pack to cool him off, make him drink lots of water, and rub lotion on his feet and legs to increase his circulation, and most important, I let him know I love him. :) s…@h…l.com

I take a shower, it automatically makes me feel better!

I grew up with my mom rubbing Vick’s on my chest when I had a cold. I still rely on it when colds or flu hit my household. I like to wrap an old, somewhat threadbare, t-shirt around my neck after I layer on the Vick’s. It keeps the pillows and blankets from getting greasy, and I think the warmth helps the Vick’s get absorbed into my skin better. It always seems to help!

We still use my Grandmother’s way of dealing with stuffy noses. My Grandmother would have us go into the bathroom and she would run hot water in the sink and cover our heads with a towel and make our very own little sauna. Works everytime.

Chicken soup is an old stand by that seems to work.

What’s better than snuggling with mom all wrapped up in a blankie watching a favorite tv show or Disney movie for the 1, 326th time when feeling crummy. That’s the special thing I do. And I have a jar of Vick’s in the medicine cabinet for chest colds. My mom did it for me and I’m carrying on that tradition. Just the smell comforts me.

Taking in more zinc, echinecea, and vitamin C never hurts. Make sure to keep well hydrated and take medications if the symptoms become too bothersome. Keeping comfortable and alleviating any kind of stress on the body is key.

BED!!! Sleeping non stop. Lots of TLC from family members.
oddly enough I had someone tell me about a year ago to put Vicks on the feet at night then put socks on and sleep like that and it would help with chest congestion. We’ve done that and it has helped!!

I use Vicks Vapor Rub when children are ill, and a heating pad, and a cool water vaporizer, but I also SING to them to comfort them!
The latter is VERY important!

I put the vicks vapor rub on their chests and under their nose and then I bring out my grandmother’s blankets –they are crazy warm and comfy–and they make everyone feel better.

The most requested “comfort” for several years now has been for me to fix a pot of Egg Drop Soup. Chicken broth, a bit of sesame oil, a little garlic and onion powder, a ‘reasonable number of eggs’ plus two or three, and the satisfied slurping is music to the ears! Two key elements: don’t beat the eggs so much that the whites and yolk are too mixed; and get the chicken broth to a good boil, then set it to swirling as fast as you can then pour the eggs in fairly quickly (don’t stir again until the eggs have set up) — and take it off the heat right then and let the boiling broth cook the eggs “just enough”.

Lots and lots of juice. Even if the vitamins don’t make you feel better then the healthy juice will aid in your recovery. Also, with my kids we always gave warm tea. It soothed them and made their throats feel better if they hurt.

For me, Nyquil is about the only thing that keeps me sane when I am sick. That and lots of fresh OJ. Thanks!
