Did you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?
I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.
Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.
For child:
- Vicks VapoRub
- Chenille Blanket
- Soothing lullaby music
- Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince
For mom:
- Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap

Unfortunately my 7 year old is the one who gets sick the most in our house. He is also asthmatic…so comforting him usually requires breathing treatments and lots of rest.

When a nasty cold infiltrates my family I immediately kick into high gear with major nurturing and TLC. I have an entire shelf in our linen closet devoted to pampering the common colds and flu! I have 2 steam vaporizers that I put into my children’s bedrooms to help them to breathe better and paired with that is old fashioned Vicks Vapor Rub! I immediately make sure my kids have it gently massaged into their little chests and I truly think just my spending my undivided attention with them is half the battle in getting them to feel better. I always read them their favorite stories and make them lots and lots of hot cocoa! I do always offer up chicken noodle soup, sorry not handmade, but they are not too crazy about it, so I don’t push that on them. Believe it or not, my son and middle daughter also love to have mint chocolate chip ice cream when they have colds so I always treat them to that too! Thanks so much for the chance to enter!

If the diagnosis is ‘minor’, then fluids, rest and (homemade) chicken soup is prescribed. If the condition worsens, then add vicks vapor rub (chest and nasal area) and double minor prescription. If at this point condition does not improve – call mom! :)

When a child in my family is sick, I pamper them with lots of stories. When I am sick, I like to hibernate in my bedroom with the remote control. No homemade remedies, but I do like nyquil for myself!

The worst part of a cold is not being able to breathe so when one of us gets a cold I put the humidifier in the room and add Vicks Vaposteam to it. It really helps a lot to get us breathing again so we can get a good nights sleep.
