Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

Want to win a this fabulous Vicks VapoRub Prize Package?

Of course you do – I wish I could win myself! Just tell me about your favorite way to comfort yourself or your child when a nasty cold infiltrates your family. Do you have a special remedy that’s been passed from generation to generation? Maybe you make a big batch of chicken noodle soup like me.

I love tea and so do my kids. It’s a great way to warm your body and feel better all over. Snuggling on the couch with a warm blanket and a good movie works too! thanks!

The best thing we can do, is make up a camp on the couch, lots of pillows & blankets, and lots of 7up & soup.

Garlic is a great sinus clearer. Since cooking is a big pain when also dealing with illness, one of the first things I do is make a batch of pasta, then brown five or six cloves of chopped garlic in olive oil with basil or parsley, and red pepper flakes. We eat it cold or hot for days. (As well as the chicken soup, of course…My mom brings that over.)

My grandmother always rubbed Vicks on my chest when I was sick. This is something I continue with my own children today to help soothe them when they are feeling lousy.

We put Vicks on our feet then slip on some heavy socks- really helps with the throat and coughing. (I know, who knew, right?)
We also stay in our jammies and get pampered.

I started giving my kids a bowl of chicken noodle soup when they were small and not feeling well. Now, everytime they are sick they ask for chicken noodle soup!

You had me at chenille. To comfort ourselves when we get sick around here, whoever is not feeling good gets to cuddle up in bed and have everyone else cater to their needs (bringing a drink or anything else they need).

    Always soup and tea!

I give them chicken noodle soup and we cuddle in bed. I then read books to my kids or we watch a movie until they fall asleep.

I rub them down with mentholatum, have chicken noodle or chicken stars warmed for them. Another good idea for a cough is to rub vicks on soles of feet, then cover with a pair of socks. It works.

Thanks so much for the contest.

When I’m sick, I fill my world with peppermint. I take a hot, steamy bath with essential peppermint oil to clear up my sinuses, I light peppermint candles to energize me and at night, I switch to vapor rub with menthol. I combine this with lots of juice, water, tea, soup,emergen-c and rest.

I’ve also joined the forum; looks good!

When DH is sick I make a big pot of homemade chicken soup, a pot of herbal green tea with honey, make sure he has lots of comfy pillows and favorite comforter, and the remote control so he can flip channels on TV until he goes to sleep.
Thanks for the chance to win!

When colds or flus pop up in my house, I do whatever I can to make sure my family feels as comfortable as possible, whether it be extra blankets and movies or homemade chicken noodle soup. Being sick is never fun.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
