Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

When I was a kid and my nose would get all stuffed up, my mom would rub the vapor rub on my chest to help me relax. At first I would be upset because the smell was so strong, but after I started to relax, it made my head feel so much better. As an adult now, I like to take a really hot bath for the steam, or use a humidifier to help relieve my sinuses.

When my daughter was little (many moons ago), I would rub her chest and feet with Vicks Vapor rub, wrap her in warm pj’s, and put her in the bed with me. Once the fever broke, she would be hungry and wanted pizza, fried chicken or something heavy. Gosh, how I miss those days!

I make killer soups and let everyone enjoy them. Vaporub takes me back to when I was a kid (40+ years ago) and we had the vaporizer with the little well in it that mom would fill with Vicks. To this day, I LOVE the smell.

Some of you may believe in those Old Remedy’s once used long ago and still practice them today. Well I was told by an elderly lady that you could (Rub) the Vicks Vapor Rub on your feet, put your socks on and curl up in the bed and it helps relieve coughs. Feels so nice and warm.

The smell of Vicks takes me back to my childhood. Mother learned at her Mother’s knee how to make someone with a cold feel better. Thank you for bringing back this memory!

I have passed down a crazy thing that my mom used to do when I was down with a cold. She would make me jelly crackers. I know it probably had absolutely no medicinal value, but it was cool and fun to eat when I was feeling blah, and my kids liked it too!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
