Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

Of course you do – I wish I could win myself! Just tell me about your favorite way to comfort yourself or your child when a nasty cold infiltrates your family. Do you have a special remedy that’s been passed from generation to generation? Maybe you make a big batch of chicken noodle soup like me.

Even though I have heard chicken noodle soup and ginger ale do not aid in illness, I still carry the tradition over from my childhood to my children. When they are sick I give them soup, and ginger ale on ice. I sit next to them by the bed, and rub their head. If they’re up for reading, I’ll read whatever they’d like until they fall asleep.

When I was a kid my grandma use to put eucalyptus oil in water on the stove to humify the air and help unplug noses. Then she’d rub Vicks Vaporub on our chest and pin a towel around it to keep the heat in. We’d lay on the couch under a pile of blankets, sip a 7Up float, and watch cartoons. That was real comfort!!

If hubby or the kids get a cold, they get tucked into bed with the tv on, a box of soft tissues, remote control, 7up, and chicken noodle soup. This is the ‘comfort tradition’ we have. Now, if its me, I want a blanket on the couch and a book to read and just suffer through it.

Nothing works perfectly, but getting the humidifier out and running it for a few hours when the kids go to bed seems to comfort them.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
