Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

Want to win a this fabulous Vicks VapoRub Prize Package?

Of course you do – I wish I could win myself! Just tell me about your favorite way to comfort yourself or your child when a nasty cold infiltrates your family. Do you have a special remedy that’s been passed from generation to generation? Maybe you make a big batch of chicken noodle soup like me.

To comfort myself, which happens only when there is time, sigh, I drink Hawaiian Punch and eat Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup. And yes, I use Vick’s, one because it helps and two, because it reminds me of my mom using it on me when I had a cold. The smell of Vick’s just says comfort.

This is an easy one to remember since I just did it last week, when colds hit our house! My kids always want something warm for their sore throats, so I fix a big kettle of decaf tea and put honey and lemon in it.

For myself, I just want to be away from everyone else in a dark bedroom with a warm blanket. That definitely isn’t the case for the kids. They like to be ensconsed on the couch in the living room with blankets, toys, tv, and a small table right next to them containing a vaporizer, tissues, a warm drink, the thermometer and whatever else might possibly serve to comfort them.

My favorites were always hot chicken soup, fresh sheets, vicks on my chest, all my favorite juices, and comics, my mom did that for me, and now I do that for my daughter.

I make peppermint herbal tea, take some Advil, heat up an aromatherapy heating pack, and stay on the couch or in bed with a really good book and/or movie. I usually don’t have much energy to do anything else for myself!

I heat slices of fresh ginger root in a pot of water. I take a wash cloth and wring it in the very warm water. I place it on his chest. The ginger helps to cut through chest congestion and helps my son to stay relaxed. I also make him a pot of chamomile tea in a special tea pot with special china teacups. He relaxes totally and allows his body the full opportunity to heal itself. Homemade chicken soup is always a bonus! I set him up on the couch with his pillows, blanket and t.v. remote, and give him lots of hugs and kisses. We also use tea tree oil to keep our immune system charged. AHHH…

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
