Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

Want to win a this fabulous Vicks VapoRub Prize Package?

Of course you do – I wish I could win myself! Just tell me about your favorite way to comfort yourself or your child when a nasty cold infiltrates your family. Do you have a special remedy that’s been passed from generation to generation? Maybe you make a big batch of chicken noodle soup like me.

I’d normally turn to some aroma therapy oil to help with the breathing (stuffy nose) and some medicated ointment to help the cough

When my little ones have colds they get soup for dinner, usually Avgolemono Soup (Greek Egg-Lemon Soup), Yougurt with fresh fruit dessert, a vapor bath and are put to bed with baby-vicks rub on their back and chest.

My little one was only sick one time this past winter (knock on wood!), but I found singing to her when she went into a coughing fit somehow took her mind off the coughing and sent her to sleep. There was also not one night that went by that she didn’t have her Vicks humidifier running in her room, even when she was well – I swear that’s what helped keep the nasties away!

We use Vicks on my youngest almost everynight for the last few months since she started dayccare. It really helps her breathe better. I would love to win this package!

For colds and flu, pine needle tea! 10X higher in vit.C than a lemon or an orange. Will knock the nasties right out of you!

This may sound weird but when either one of my sons had a cough this winter I put vicks vapo rub for children on the bottom of their feet and it helped them to stop coughing. It was like magic.

My kids like to just lay there and have me rub their backs when they aren’t feeling well. My Mom used to do the same for me when I was little. :)

When my child gets a cold or the flu, I do a few things for him. I start by finding his favorite movie, gettting him his favorite blanket, and getting him something cool for him to drink. I also give him the bear lollipops for his sore throat. There are times he just wants me to stay with him and just let him lay his head in my lap while he lays down.

I rock with them while watching their show. When they fall asleep, I recline and fall asleep with them. At least that is what I did with my first. . .I just had my second and have a feeling something is going to have to change :)

Our formula for the flu/cold: Homemade chicken noodle soup, ritz crackers, orange juice and lots of herbal tea. For us grown ups, we sometimes throw in some robitussin if need be. Vicks was also a big one last flu season, especially for our son.

I just found this video on You Tube that really shows how germs and viruses spread. It is so cool. It’s meant for kids but I even learned a lot!

Getting sick is terrible, but I always turn it into good “Mama love time” with my kids. When one of them has a cold we do the soup. I also get a favorite snack of theirs and rent a movie. Then it’s snuggle time on the couch! It the perfect op to give extra love!

Any when my kids are sick I like to rub Vick’s on their nose, chest, and the bottom of their feet (I don’t know, but it seems to work). Also lots of TLC for the sick kiddos too.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
