Comfort Giveaway: Vicks VapoRub Prize Package (ARV $450)

May 9, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

vaporubDid you know that kids can catch six to ten colds year-round?

I’ve never kept track, but that sounds about right. I don’t think there was a single week this past winter when at least one of the kids was feeling under the weather.

Vicks would like to provide one very lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader with a little extra comfort for both mom and child. They’ve put together a “Vicks VapoRub Comfort Care” gift basket valued at $450 filled with Vicks VapoRub along with some other favorite items to make children more comfortable. The basket includes a plush Little Giraffe blanket, classic children’s books and lullaby CDs. And don’t think they forgot about Mom, especially with Mother’s Day a few days away! They’re also including a 100% cashmere wrap, some favorite soothing skincare items from L’Occitane and a manicure/pedicure kit.

For child:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Chenille Blanket
  • Soothing lullaby music
  • Assortment of children’s books: Corduroy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree, The Little Prince

For mom:

  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Knit Wrap
  • L’Occitane Shea La Vie Gift Set and Hand Cream
  • Sephora Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit
  • Essie Spa Pedicure Mini Kit

Want to win a this fabulous Vicks VapoRub Prize Package?

Of course you do – I wish I could win myself! Just tell me about your favorite way to comfort yourself or your child when a nasty cold infiltrates your family. Do you have a special remedy that’s been passed from generation to generation? Maybe you make a big batch of chicken noodle soup like me.

Ahhh good ole Vick’s=I remember the smell well from my childhood. Mother must have thought that stuff could work miracles, seeing how much she use to rub all over me!
I prefer to comfort my family members with a cozy, inviting bed, plenty of covers & even a water bottle if they’d like one :)
Plenty of warm chic noodle soup, a few crackers & ginger ale, or a cup of hot tea.QUIET is the rule of the day in the house when someone’s got a bad cold-they need to REST! Hard to come by in today’s fast-paced world.

My Mom was always the comforter when it came to an illness. Now that I have little girls I find that I do the same things she did. If there is a fever I always grab a cold damp washcloth and put on the head. Then I stroke their hair like Mom use to. I know the coolness helps to drop the fever but the love through the stroking of the hair and the closeness seems to lessen the pain of the illness. I hope it’s as comforting to my girls as it was for me.

When my little guy is sick, I make a bed for him in the living room with a big pillow and blanket, let him stay in his pj’s all day, let him watch cartoons all day, and snuggle in the floor with him. awww, I hate when the little one’s are sick.

When my 14month old little one gets a cold, I soothe him with a nice warm bath, a rub down with Baby vicks vapo rub, warm pj’s (I put in the dryer while he’s in the bath), and snuggle in a blanket while rocking in the glider in his room.

My baby is still a baby, just 7 months old. So while I try to keep her away from nasty cold and flu bugs, it doesn’t always work. When she comes down with the sniffles we’ll snuggle up in a cozy bed together until it passes.

I just had a baby 5 weeks ago, so I have yet to start any of my own traditions with the little peanut but my mom was always a fan of Vicks … my little sisters name is Vicki and we always called her Vicks, so it was a little joke in our house.

When I was a child my parents gave us hot toddies and put us to bed to sweat it out!
With my kids, I used Vicks on the chest and if they did not have a fever, they could bunk out on the couch and watch cartoons or movies all day! I would read to them or play quiet games. They usually fell asleep to get some much needed rest! I gave them soup, seven-up , juices, water, broth or tea.

I comfort my children with chicken noodle soup, juices/sprite, lots of water and of course Vicks Salve. I read them stories or let them watch a movie if they feel like it. And lots of hugs from mom. I would love to win this prize for my family.

To soothe my son, I rock him and put on soft music and just hold him.

For me, I make my grandmothers get quick remedy: Take a chicken boullion cube and place it in a cup. Heat hot water in the kettle and pour over the cube. Break up the cube and drink. It’s soothing, quick, hot and salty. All of those things seem to help!

I use vicks, vitamin C, a warm bath and lots of cuddle time. I never get anything done when my kiddos are sick. But, they feel very loved and comforted.

When I feel sick, I use the same thing my mom used on me when I was little & sick ~ and that was often!

First things first! I get the Vicks VapoRub & rub it into the soles of my feet & put on some soft, comfy socks. Then I rub some into my chest, so I can breathe, and some onto my back, to help keep my lungs clear. Cozy cotton PJs are a must & then I make a pot of chicken soup ~ eggdrop-style for some extra protein. Mmmmm, yummy & then go to bed & pull the covers up! I feel better now, just thinking about it!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
