Whey Protein Isolate

Vitalabs, Inc., Jonesboro, GA is voluntarily recalling four specific lot numbers of Whey-26 Protein Powder due to concerns over potential Salmonella contamination. For a complete list of lot numbers and brand names, go here. This recall extends to various parts of the United States including Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington and outside the United States in Aruba, Ontario and Poland. The recalled product was offered through a variety of distribution channels including health food stores, clinics, fitness centers and internet based companies.

Consumers who purchased any of the affected lot numbers are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or credit. Consumers with questions may contact Vitalabs, Inc. at 1-800-241-3017, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. EST.

Consumer Recalls: Rattle Baby Slippers, ATVs + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Holiday Rattle Baby Slippers

Walgreen Co., of Deerfield, Ill. has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 57,000 Holiday Rattle Baby Slippers because the internal stuffing and rattle inside the slippers’ decorative figures can be pulled out, posing a choking hazard to young children. The recalled slippers are decorated with stuffed fabric figures including snowmen, Santa, reindeer, and penguins, and have decorative rattles inside the slippers that sound like bells when shaken. Item number 999526 is printed on the back of the cardboard header card packaging. “Find Your Joy” is printed on the front of the slippers packaging. The affected baby slippers were sold exclusively at Walgreen stores nationwide from October 2010 through January 2011 for about $5.

Consumers should immediately stop using the slippers and return them to any Walgreen location for a full refund. For additional information, contact Atico International USA toll-free at (877) 546-4835 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

KingQuad ATVs

Suzuki Manufacturing of America Corporation has announced a recall on Suzuki KingQuad ATVs because some of the KingQuad ATV’s plastic fuel tanks were improperly manufactured and can develop a fuel leak, posing a fire hazard. This recall is for all 2008 to 2010 LT-A450X models, all 2009 to 2010 LT-A500X models, all 2008 to 2010 LT-A750X models and 2011 LT-A500X and LT-A750X models manufactured before December 11, 2010. The words “Suzuki KingQuad” are on the left and right sides of the fuel tank housing. Model numbers are on the left and right lower side panels above the footrests. The affected ATVs were sold at Suzuki ATV dealers nationwide from July 2007 through February 2011 for between $6,600 and $9,500.

Consumers should immediately stop using these vehicles and contact a local Suzuki ATV dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. Consumers with 2011 LT-A500X and LT-A750X models should call their local Suzuki ATV dealer to determine if their ATV is subject to this recall. Consumers with recalled ATVs are being sent a notice directly from Suzuki. Consumer Recalls: Door Locksets, Wine Openers + More

Door Locksets

Stanley Security Solutions Inc., of Indianapolis, Ind. has announced a voluntary recall of 6K and 7KC Series Door Locksets because the latches can fail and the door cannot be unlocked from the inside, posing an entrapment hazard. This failure could lead to the inability to vacate a location in an emergency. The recalled locksets are in the 6K and 7KC Series Medium Duty Locksets and have a brass or stainless steel finish and may have the word “BEST” embossed on the key core. The affected locksets were sold nationwide from April 2010 through January 2011 for between about $80 and $260.

Consumers should contact Stanley Security Solutions to schedule an appointment to have the latches replaced free of charge. For additional information, contact Stanley Security Solutions’ toll-free at (888) 312-8875 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Wine Openers

Sunbeam Products Inc., of Boca Raton, Fla. is recalling about 159,000 Wine Bottle Openers because the wine bottles can break when opened with the recalled opener, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. The recalled wine bottle openers were sold at QVC retail and employees stores nationwide, QVC’s televised shopping programs, and online at www.qvc.com and www.skybarhome.com from November 2010 through December 2010 for between $30 and $60.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled wine bottle openers. Consumers who purchased the wine bottle openers at a QVC store should return them to any QVC store for a full refund. Consumers who purchased the wine bottle openers through QVC’s televised shopping programs or at www.qvc.com were mailed instructions for obtaining a refund. Purchasers who have not received the mailed instructions should contact QVC. If the wine openers were not purchased through QVC, contact Sunbeam for instructions to obtain a full refund. Freestanding Steel Outdoor Fireplaces

Sunjoy Industries Group Limited, of Steubenville, Ohio has announced a voluntary recall on Freestanding Steel Outdoor Fireplaces because the decorative bronze powder coat finish on the fireplace chimney can ignite during use, posing a fire hazard to consumers. This recall involves “Garden Treasures Living” steel outdoor fireplaces with a bronze finish chimney and slate colored accents. The wood burning fireplace is approximately 24 inches deep by 35 inches wide and 57 inches tall, has two glass doors and a tile back inside. Item number 0027705 and model number L-OF082PST-3 are printed on the front page of the product’s instruction manual. No other “Garden Treasures Living” brand outdoor fireplaces are included in this recall. The affected fireplaces were sold at Lowe’s retail stores nationwide from March 2010 through November 2010 for about $300.

Consumers should immediately stop using the fireplace and contact Sunjoy to obtain a free replacement chimney and chimney cap. Consumer Recalls: Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread

Unilever United States, Inc. announced a limited recall of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread because it may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The recalled peanut butter was distributed to retail stores in Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, and is packaged in 16.3 oz plastic jars as follows:

  • UPCs: 048001006812 and 048001006782 (located on the side of the jar’s label below the bar code.)
  • Best-If-Used-By Dates: MAY1612LR1, MAY1712LR1, MAY1812LR1, MAY1912LR1, MAY2012LR1 and MAY2112LR1 (Stamped on the lid of the jar.)

    Consumers who have purchased Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread with the above UPCs and Best-If-Used-By-Dates are urged to discard the product immediately and call the company for a replacement coupon. Consumers can contact the company at 1-800-453-3432, which is operational 24 hours a day. In addition, a consumer services representative is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM EST.
