Consumer Recalls: Door Locksets, Wine Openers + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Door Locksets

Stanley Security Solutions Inc., of Indianapolis, Ind. has announced a voluntary recall of 6K and 7KC Series Door Locksets because the latches can fail and the door cannot be unlocked from the inside, posing an entrapment hazard. This failure could lead to the inability to vacate a location in an emergency. The recalled locksets are in the 6K and 7KC Series Medium Duty Locksets and have a brass or stainless steel finish and may have the word “BEST” embossed on the key core. The affected locksets were sold nationwide from April 2010 through January 2011 for between about $80 and $260.

Consumers should contact Stanley Security Solutions to schedule an appointment to have the latches replaced free of charge. For additional information, contact Stanley Security Solutions’ toll-free at (888) 312-8875 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Wine Openers

Sunbeam Products Inc., of Boca Raton, Fla. is recalling about 159,000 Wine Bottle Openers because the wine bottles can break when opened with the recalled opener, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. For a complete description, including model number, color and picture, go here. The recalled wine bottle openers were sold at QVC retail and employees stores nationwide, QVC’s televised shopping programs, and online at www.qvc.com and www.skybarhome.com from November 2010 through December 2010 for between $30 and $60.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled wine bottle openers. Consumers who purchased the wine bottle openers at a QVC store should return them to any QVC store for a full refund. Consumers who purchased the wine bottle openers through QVC’s televised shopping programs or at www.qvc.com were mailed instructions for obtaining a refund. Purchasers who have not received the mailed instructions should contact QVC. If the wine openers were not purchased through QVC, contact Sunbeam for instructions to obtain a full refund. For additional information contact QVC at (800) 367-9444 between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. ET daily or visit the firm’s website. Consumers can also contact Sunbeam toll-free at (888) 759-2279 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website.

Other Recalls

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
