24-Hour Giveaway: Kroger Pet Insurance and a Chance to Win a $25 Kroger Gift Card

December 29, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

PetFirst Healthcare Kroger Health Insurance

Complementing the selection of quality pet food and supplies in Kroger stores, Kroger Personal Finance (KPF) brings together a wide array of quality financial products and services from preferred providers for Kroger customers and their furry family members, including a new “accident only” pet insurance policy for just $9.95/month per pet.

To most pet owners, pets are family too! When pets get sick or injured, most of us are willing to spend almost whatever it takes to get them back on all four feet, but the price of veterinary care does not come cheap. As a matter of fact, according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA) vet bills last year in the U.S. topped $11 billion. For this reason, pet insurance policies are on the rise.

Kroger Pet Insurance coverage starts at just $9.95 for an accident-only plan and includes plans with up to $12,000 worth of annual coverage per pet. Sign up in Kroger’s stores or online!

One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a $25 Kroger gift card to pamper their furry friend! To enter, tell us how you save money on the costs of owning a pet!

My money saving pet food/treat trick is that I make my own treats. We have a dehydrator, so all I do is fill it with either meat such as turkey or beef or chicken or fill it with cleaned and roughly sliced/chunked up veggies like sweet potatoes and zucchini. I cleared this through our vet, and not only are these treats much cheaper than those in the store, they are so MUCH healthier. Since these count as “food” items, our dogs eat less bagged food (which is also high quality). Our “kids” have yet to be sick or to the vet for anything other than annual check ups, which saves a ton of money itself! (another plus – they also make less poo, so that means fewer doggie clean up bags for me… ha)

Wait for sale at petsmart & go with a coupon. Somtimes Purina one has couoons inside or on the bag & the store will take both,

I don’t really skimp much when it comes to my dogs. I look for the best prices on dog food I can and swap for coupons on their preferred brand, but other than that they’re spoiled and I’m okay with it!

I do use coupons for my babies petfood. It just seems so funny when people look in my frig and see dogfood in reheatable packages that I get at kroger. They are the only ones that carry the food and they have a cute little frig in the dog section that they keep it in. They also have a freezer with the fridge that keeps pet treats in it also. And Tina G, I never thought of that ’cause Im always dehydrating beef for hubby. never thought about the babies food… I’ll have to check that out with our vet. Thats a great idea.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
