Win-It Wednesday: TerraCycle Back-To-School Prize Pack!

August 18, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 496 Comments

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Every year BILLIONS of drink pouches, yogurt containers, candy wrappers and more end up in dumpsters and landfills across America. TerraCycle’s mission is to recycle these items into affordable, eco-friendly products. They’re making “upcycling” trendy with their adorable backpacks, binders, and lunch boxes!

Want to get paid for your trash? Join one of their FREE Brigades and TerraCycle will pay you per piece for sending them your non-recyclable waste materials.

One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a TerraCycle Prize Pack that includes the following:

  • Capri Sun lunch box
  • Billboard laptop case
  • Honest Kids 3 ring binder
  • Paper pens
  • (2) Capri Sun pencil cases
  • Capri Sun small tote
  • Doritos backpack
  • Circuit board coasters
  • Circuit board picture frame

To enter, tell me how your family gets environmentally friendly. Do you recycle as much as possible? Have you given up paper towels and instead opted for good old-fashioned cloth?

+++++++++++++++

Every reader has four methods available to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, three, or four for up to a total of 4 entries!!!

We have recycle bins. We also try to use only washable dishes instead of paper plates & cups. We bring our steel water bottles wsith us instead of buying water.

We live in an apartment complex that does not offer recycling. What we do have is a little compost bin on our patio where we recycle our paper products and organic leftovers and use it for potting soil. Every little bit helps!

Going green by using rechargeable batteries and doing our part to recycle. Thankfully our community has just expanded the items they receive via recycle so we are adjusting how we dispose of our items. It’s fun teaching a 4 year old how to recycle! And since it’s often a smaller box and lighter he helps me carry it to the curb and looks forward to that every week!

How does your family go green? We are good about recycling in our home and also have given up bottled water on a regular basis and now use water pitcher filtration instead.

We recycle a lot, including using store plastic bags are trash can liners. Composting is in the near future, too. And we always use cloths to clean up messes – no paper towels for us.

Thanks for bringing my attention to Terracycle. I’ve been wondering what to do with all the non recyclable yogurt containers we have. Our family has gone green by using rags instead of papertowels. It is super easy and we have a bag of rags handy at all times in the kitchen. We have a basket that we throw the used rags in and just wash them in the washing machine when we need more. Our rags are made from old clothes and stained tablecloths.

We try to remember to turn off water while we are brushing our teeth, try to turn lights off when leaving rooms. We’ve switched to energy saving light bulbs . We use lunchboxes & containers instead of bags & baggies. I’m sure there are many more!! :)

Our family uses chemical free cloth cleaners by Norwex, we recycle and compost, we buy organic when able, we use recycled paper products, use natural care products, and my son wears eco-friendly diapers (by Seventh Generation and bumGenius). Our dog even eats organic food! We’ve been named a Columbus GreenSpot too :)

Our family recycles EVERYTHING! We purchased recycling bins to keep outside and carry them off once a week. We saved all the tests that the school sent home when the kids were in public school (typing paper and the back was blank) to reuse for art on the blank side. We use cloth napkins, even when guests are over and got rid of all disposable plates, cups and bowls. We use canisters, bowls, etc to store food in instead of baggies, plastic wrap, etc. We have our own grocery bags. We buy large bottles of juice, Gatorade, etc and put it into reusable bottles. The kids are really on board and love that they get to make money each time we go to the scrap yard with their cans!

We are very lucky because our trash service also picks up our recycbles – makes it very easy! We also use cloth napkins and we rarely use paper towels (but sometimes we still do). I take my own reusable sacks to the store – hate plastic bags. I know we can do more but we do what we can.
