Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

With school back in session, more kids will be online than ever before doing homework, looking up information and playing educational games in addition to the hours spent on Facebook and emailing and instant messaging friends they would normally do. Keeping them safe as they browse is important, so you don’t have to worry about what websites they’re clicking through to and you can protect your computer as well from viruses and other internet threats.
F-Secure’s Internet Security 2011 features Browsing Protection to keep viruses, worms and spyware at bay, not allowing your children to click through to those sites. There are also advanced Parental Controls so that you can block sites with inappropriate content and keep your kids safe.
One lucky Deal Seeking Mom winner will win a Sony Vaio 10″ Netbook and 1-year of F-Secure’s Internet Security 2011!
To enter, visit the F-Secure website and then come back and tell me one thing you learned about staying safe online while you were there.

On F-Secure site, I read that I need to be sure that when travelling, such as in hotel rooms or other places, make sure that the internet connection is a secure wireless network before sending any info that can be sensitive over the web.

One thing I learned about F-secure is it is safer to surf social networking website.

I am a FB fan and subscribe to the daily email alerts. And I always wonder when I give my info for samples and cheap magazines if I am risking too much for a deal. I would love to have f secure as the protection would really be like icing on a cake when I bag a deal.

I learned that by using this software you can use parental controls to block what your children are viewing which I think is a definate plus. Also learned about “worms” that can be sent to your friends via the computer.

When shopping online many online shops display a closed padlock or unbroken key symbol and switch to a https:// address when you proceed to the checkout. Which means that the sensitive information you send during the checkout process is encrypted and can’t be read by others.

Visited the F-Secure Web site. The thing that I learned is that this is a company that is making these all important security measures accessible to regular folks. For the first time on one of these sites, I didn’t feel I needed an IT degree to figure it all out.
It’s clean and easy to find what you need, and they have some cool free online tools for getting access to your computer, if it’s shut down because of virus infection or just keeping your computer clean and clear. Very nice!

Never really considered this aspect of online social sites before: “identity theft is a major industry on the Internet. Information extracted from social networking sites is used by criminals to spam our e-mails and for targeted attacks on specific individuals and companies, using sophisticated social engineering techniques.” It’s true though, unless you limit the amount of exposure your personal information gets on social networking sites you can be bombarded with spam emails or even worse a trojan, worm or key logger virus sent through another site you click to or through an email sent to you from someone who ripped your email from the internet. Good information on that website!

I learned that my info is not always protected and not to share so much.
Daleene
I learned that Additionally, browsing protection and extensive parental control settings block dangerous and inappropriate websites.
That’s cool!
