Win-It Wednesday: Dyson Air Multiplier 10-Inch Desk Fan

July 14, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

This is no ordinary fan — obviously. In fact, did you even realize that it IS a fan?

This is the new Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan, and while you’ll definitely have to pay a good amount for this revolutionary technology, there are some very valid reasons why you should give it some consideration when making your next fan purchase:

  • Notice there are NO blades — The Dyson Air Multiplier technology does not require blades to generate a steady stream of air. We don’t use traditional fans around our children because of the dangerous, fast-spinning blades. When I was younger, I leaned back over one of those old fans with the metal blades. It immediately sucked my long hair up in it, pulling out a good section of it, so while I learned the hard way, we’ve chosen not to expose our children to them at all.
  • It’s super easy to clean — After a few days of use, traditional fan blades and the fan casing become caked with dust, fibers, and pollen. Getting them clean is a major ordeal, but with the Air Multiplier, you can just easily wipe it clean with a damp cloth. This is especially important for households with allergy sufferers.
  • It uses a dimmer switch — Traditional fans usually only have 3-4 speed settings, but the Dyson Air Multiplier allows you to set your own perfect amount of air flow by turning a dial.
  • You can easily tilt it with the touch-tilt feature — Box fans don’t tilt at all, and directional fans can become loose over time, making adjusting them difficult. The Dyson Air Multiplier has a touch-tilt feature that makes directing the air flow simple and easy.

I know some of you that use a fan at night to help you sleep are probably wondering if it’s silent. Well, it’s definitely quieter than a traditional fan, but it still provides a good amount of white noise that will help put you drift off to sleep.

We’ve been thoroughly happy with our Dyson Air Multiplier Fan. Besides being very futuristic-looking and a great conversation starter, it does a great job cooling off a room in a safe manner that’s very important to this mom of five.

In my bedroom…it’s summer in Houston and I don’t have a fan!

I would put it in the room we are changing into my son’s “big boy room” to make room for our new baby. This room has previously been the office and seems warmer than other rooms in the house.

I would put the fan on the bookcase. It’s right by the couch, so it would keep us cool.

I’d put it on my nightstand, my husband is always complaining about the heat!

Our office — we live in Phoenix and that is the one room in our home that doesn’t have a fan!

i would put it right next to my bed because my window is broken while the rest of my house stays cool my room is still 10degree hotter at the least. so the dyson fan would def come in handy.

We could use one for my daughter’s room. Her little fan scares my husband. He’s constantly afraid she’s going to put her fingers in it (she’s almost 2).

I think I’d put it in my kitchen. It would be nice to have some air circulating in there, and it would be a nice conversation piece.

On the nightstand to cool the occasional hot flash!

  18. Colleen

I’d put it on my desk in my home office, so it’ll keep me cool while I’m working!

I’m a teacher and for some reason the “powers that be” can’t seem to get my room the correct temp. So, I would the Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan on the edge of my desk blowing right at me! Ahhh… I can almost feel it now :)

We don’t have air conditioning so I’d use this in the living room and I’d put it on our end table.

I would definitely put it on our dresser in our bedroom to keep us cool at night. We raised the temperature on our air conditioner to help save money so having a quiet, easy-to-clean fan will be great for us!

    2. I would put this fan on my husband’s desk. He is ALWAYS hot and he absolutely adores this fan! Everytime we go to Target or Bed Bath and Beyond he has to go play with it!

    July 14, 2010 at 5:12 pm

I would put the fan in my bedroom–the AC doesn’t seem to reach there!

  28. Becky

    July 14, 2010 at 5:12 pm

i would put it in my sons room since it has no blades it is safe for him

While I do work in an airconditioned office, they have failed to realize that 3 people sit right under the HUGE skylight without any repreve from the glaring sun – and the A/C doesn’t do us any favors!
I would put it on my desk and point it where myself and my two co-workers would get the most benefit from it.
It’s crazy blaring hot on the warm summer days and it’s not gotten too hot yet! I’m not looking forward to another summer under the plastic skylight that runs the length of our building. And if you wondering, “won’t management do anything?” NO, they won’t. They aren’t bothered by it. But they no longer tell me I can’t wear summer casual business looking clothes!
    WE NEED THIS FAN!
    Thanks for listening!

We keep a fan in our bedroom at night as my husband cannot sleep without feeling it and hearing the white noise. We have to drag it out from the corner and by the bed each night and morning. With two small children, the cord is a nightmare. This would be wonderful!
