Win-It Wednesday: Dyson Air Multiplier 10-Inch Desk Fan

July 14, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

This is no ordinary fan — obviously. In fact, did you even realize that it IS a fan?

This is the new Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan, and while you’ll definitely have to pay a good amount for this revolutionary technology, there are some very valid reasons why you should give it some consideration when making your next fan purchase:

  • Notice there are NO blades — The Dyson Air Multiplier technology does not require blades to generate a steady stream of air. We don’t use traditional fans around our children because of the dangerous, fast-spinning blades. When I was younger, I leaned back over one of those old fans with the metal blades. It immediately sucked my long hair up in it, pulling out a good section of it, so while I learned the hard way, we’ve chosen not to expose our children to them at all.
  • It’s super easy to clean — After a few days of use, traditional fan blades and the fan casing become caked with dust, fibers, and pollen. Getting them clean is a major ordeal, but with the Air Multiplier, you can just easily wipe it clean with a damp cloth. This is especially important for households with allergy sufferers.
  • It uses a dimmer switch — Traditional fans usually only have 3-4 speed settings, but the Dyson Air Multiplier allows you to set your own perfect amount of air flow by turning a dial.
  • You can easily tilt it with the touch-tilt feature — Box fans don’t tilt at all, and directional fans can become loose over time, making adjusting them difficult. The Dyson Air Multiplier has a touch-tilt feature that makes directing the air flow simple and easy.

I know some of you that use a fan at night to help you sleep are probably wondering if it’s silent. Well, it’s definitely quieter than a traditional fan, but it still provides a good amount of white noise that will help put you drift off to sleep.

We’ve been thoroughly happy with our Dyson Air Multiplier Fan. Besides being very futuristic-looking and a great conversation starter, it does a great job cooling off a room in a safe manner that’s very important to this mom of five.

I’d put it on my husband’s nightstand so we could turn off that gigantic fan he keeps on all the time. It drives me nuts!

I would so use this fan in my bedroom! I live in a 2-story townhome in Houston. For some reason if my AC is set at 75, my bedroom is 89. Of course, this means I have to set my AC to 65 to get it to be 75 in the bedroom. I do have a ceiling fan, but it really does nothing. I’ve tried box fans and they don’t help much. Something this small could conceivably be attached near my ceiling where the AC vent is to spread the AC further. Oh, how I would love this!

I would use this fan in our bedroom at night. For some reason the master bedroom stays hot during the summers even with the ceiling fan going. At night I run a regular fan but it really doesn’t make a difference. I keep the air turned up all the time (stays at 76) so it just doesn’t get cool in my room ever…well except for winter when it doesn’t get warm. I do have a Dyson vacuum going on 6 years now and works just as good as the day I got it so I know quality won’t be an issue.

I live in South Carolina, land of humidity, and have a broken-coated (long haired) Jack Russell Terrier. For the last several years we have set up a fan in the living room during the hottest months of the year to help her keep as cool as possible. However, she is a Jack Russell Terrier, so she is prone to fits of running in circles, jumping in the air, chasing our Chihuahua or cat or just general play and rough housing and she frequently knocks it over and that scares her half to death. So if I won this I would put it on an end table so that it would be more secure and then she could lounge on the couch while still being in front of her fan. She is so spoiled.

I’d put in on my nightstand by my bed . . . I wouldn’t have to worry about the cats getting their tails in it.
