Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday, with 24-hour giveaways just for you!

Is something bugging you?! Bestselling award-winner David Shannon shows the funny side of waging war against–oh no!–head lice. Bugs in My Hair is guaranteed to make you laugh–and itch! From the opening picture of a happy, over-sized louse appearing with his suitcases, you know these bugs are determined to stay, and Mom is about to go nuts!
Author David Shannon peppers his hilarious scenes with fun, “nitpicking” facts about these “lousy” critters and pokes fun at common denial: “It’s probably ash from that volcano in Pogo Pogo.” Once again Shannon has created a fresh, highly entertaining read-aloud classic that begs to be read again and again.
“If anyone can make a case of head lice fun, it’s Shannon. He humorously captures and normalizes the panic, embarrassment, and tedium of this common grade-school affliction. Even the mom’s reactions — first panic, then phantom head-itch, then mountains of laundry — are perfect!”
–Susan Kunhardt, Book Passage, Corte Madera, CA

I’ve been lucky to never have them. My kids haven’t had them either and I’m keeping my fingers crossed they don’t bring lice home from school!
Beatriz
Yep, went through it last year. Turns out the parent of the girl who had it didn’t think the other girls at the bday sleepover would get them. Surprise! They did

I’ve never had lice (thank goodness). It was really scary when I was a teacher and a student had it. I started itching just thinking about it.

When I used to cut hair, I had a father/son appointment one Saturday morning. When the son, probably around 6-7yrs old, sat in my chair I was combing his hair asking what we were doing since he had longer hair and as I was combing through different sections I noticed lice. I probably jumped back 3 feet when I saw his scalp. It scared me because I had actually never had lice or encountered them myself but I knew exactly what they were when I was looking at his head. I calmly told the father I was unable to cut his hair because the son had lice, our policy, and directed him to the grocery store in the same shopping strip and told him he’ll want to stop there and pick up the medicated shampoo before they go home. The Father laughed but seemed pretty surprised and double checked his son’s hair and asked me if I would check his hair. I did a quick peek for him and didn’t see any but told him better safe than sorry to shampoo his head too! I spent the next 20 minutes sanitizing and cleaning everything in sight in case any of those little guys were left behind.

The family I nannied for had out of town guests that had two children. The moms went out to play golf and I was getting the kids ready for the day. As I was brushing one of their hair I noticed the bugs.
The out of town guests brought the bugs with them from out of town. Needless, to say I did not want to be in the house until they were gone.
