Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday, with 24-hour giveaways just for you!

Is something bugging you?! Bestselling award-winner David Shannon shows the funny side of waging war against–oh no!–head lice. Bugs in My Hair is guaranteed to make you laugh–and itch! From the opening picture of a happy, over-sized louse appearing with his suitcases, you know these bugs are determined to stay, and Mom is about to go nuts!
Author David Shannon peppers his hilarious scenes with fun, “nitpicking” facts about these “lousy” critters and pokes fun at common denial: “It’s probably ash from that volcano in Pogo Pogo.” Once again Shannon has created a fresh, highly entertaining read-aloud classic that begs to be read again and again.
“If anyone can make a case of head lice fun, it’s Shannon. He humorously captures and normalizes the panic, embarrassment, and tedium of this common grade-school affliction. Even the mom’s reactions — first panic, then phantom head-itch, then mountains of laundry — are perfect!”
–Susan Kunhardt, Book Passage, Corte Madera, CA

My experience with lice was over 20 yrs ago and I remember my mom trying all the home remedies from from mayo to cutting our hair short. It was so mortifying back then but looking back is funny because my mom took offense to the lice and waged her own personal war against them.

Both of my kids have never had lice thank goodness

Thankfully, (knock on wood), we haven’t had any experiences with head lice! I’m hoping it stays that way because we have way too many stuffed animals to have to deal with cleaning all of them.

When my step-daughter was about 6 or 7 her Mother concocted a story that she had head lice & that if we didn’t purchase the shampoo & the bed spray, etc. she was going to call the child welfare officials on us. My husband being an attorney knew that would never work seeing as my step-daughter didn’t even have any lice on her. Now that my step-daughter is in her 20’s we all laugh about how silly it was.

Unfortunately, I had them several times and with hair down to my waist, getting rid of them was never easy. I remember one time in particular we lived in an apartment and my mom carried EVERYTHING: clothes, sheets, bedspreads….to the laudromat and washed clothes all night. I’m sure the people who had the apartment next to the washers didn’t appreciate it at all!

Three kids all sharing lice in the summer. Washing all 3 kids things at the same time. So much laundry.

My kids have not had lice yet…FINGERS CROSSED that I don’t have to deal with that.
Christine Allen
We have largely avoided having that problem. Which is quite the feat since we have 4 school age children.

Thankfully, my kids never had lice. They are adults now and I have 2 grandchildren, so it’s possible I’ll still have to deal with it!
