Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. This summer, they want to encourage kids to read — and enjoy doing it — with a fun reading challenge/ Have your child under 12 years old sign up at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!
Harper Collins has this tip for helping kids enjoy reading:
Bring Your Book to Life!
A good book lets your child’s imagination run free to visit new worlds. After your child reads a book, help him or her to use other creative parts of their brain and build the world even more by acting out their favorite scene from the book. It’s a great way to have family fun on a summer night, or to bring together your child’s friends on a rainy afternoon. Even better, video the performance and you’ll have a great memory to revisit later!
Here are a few tips:
- Have your child imagine what the book would look like as a movie
- Let them design what the scenery would look like
- Encourage your child to choose their favorite character, and explain why
- And have fun!

My daughter is 2 1/2 so it requires me reading to her. My biggest problem is that I have laundry, cleaning, dinner to make and another kiddo to take care of and don’t have enough hours in a day to satisfy her desire to be read to!

I am a very lucky Mommy. I have little girls that would rather read than watch TV. Books can get pretty pricey, so this Giftcard would be awesome! They would love you forever…lol

With the beautiful summer weather, I try to set up an umbrella and snacks and have a small selection of books for them to choose from…sometimes it even works!

I don’t have kids of my own, but will answer this pertaining to the kids I work with. I think just getting kids to stay focused on a book when there are so many other distractions (usually technology related) is the biggest challenge. Though if I can find a book with a subject that really interests the child I have better luck keeping them focused.

My daughter has a hard time reading normal books, shes great with the Tag Junior and more interactive books, but she struggles when its just a boring regular book….I guess if shes reading something thats good!

Just getting the twins to sit still is a feat…but when they do they love to read!
Sarah
My son loves books. I’m still working on my daughter and her attention span to sit through a whole book. This gift card would be greatly appreciated considering how expensive books are!

it is difficult finding the appropriate book for my daughter’s reading level. She will be in 3rd grade this Fall and sometimes want to read the popular books like Harry Potter. While I have no problem with a book that is above her reading level and challenging her, she will read the first few pages and then get discourage because it is too difficult to read. We do read aloud so she can enjoy more challenging books, but I think it is important that children find books at or just above there reading level because there are so many components to consider such as prosody, comprehension, fluency and once they find the right reading level children are more prone to enjoy reading and will want to read.
