Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. This summer, they want to encourage kids to read — and enjoy doing it — with a fun reading challenge/ Have your child under 12 years old sign up at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!
Harper Collins has this tip for helping kids enjoy reading:
Bring Your Book to Life!
A good book lets your child’s imagination run free to visit new worlds. After your child reads a book, help him or her to use other creative parts of their brain and build the world even more by acting out their favorite scene from the book. It’s a great way to have family fun on a summer night, or to bring together your child’s friends on a rainy afternoon. Even better, video the performance and you’ll have a great memory to revisit later!
Here are a few tips:
- Have your child imagine what the book would look like as a movie
- Let them design what the scenery would look like
- Encourage your child to choose their favorite character, and explain why
- And have fun!

Fortunately, I don’t have an issue getting my son to read. He is 2 1/2 and LOVES to have books read to him and to “read” them to me.

Since my son is only 8 months old, it is not too challenging since we have been reading to him since he was born. He loves the Where’s Spot series.

My kids love to read–my biggest challenge is trying to teach my 4 yo to read because she insists that she already can (though she can’t yet)!

Find books with different textures and a mirror in a book is always a great way to get toddlers to want to read.

The hard part is finding the right books to get my 10 year old daughter hooked on reading. Once she gets into a book it’s easy from there on and it’s great when they are series books, I wish she would love Nancy Drew like i did as a girl. O-well as long as she’s reading and enjoying it. :)

getting them away from the computer and xbox is the biggest challenge!

my son is 10, and does NOT enjoy reading. i, personally, read all the time. i didn’t when i was a child, though. i simply thought it was boring. he is very similar. he has to find a story that really grabs him! it needs to be either funny or a mystery. but not all… think, captain underpants. it’s rough to find something he will read all the way through…

I don’t have kids, but I do try to read books with my “Little Sister” from the YMCA. She has a short attention span though and would rather be running around outside than reading a book. Sometimes she’s eager to show me what she’s learned at school though, especially if it’s while we’re eating supper (when she has to sit anyways!)

I think the biggest challenge in getting kids to read is getting them away from video and computer games.

My kids are little so I’m the one reading to them…I have a hard time setting aside time to do it! There is only so much I can do before bedtime after I get home from work.
