Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Borders is Double Dog Daring you with their Summer Reading Challenge. This summer, they want to encourage kids to read — and enjoy doing it — with a fun reading challenge/ Have your child under 12 years old sign up at the Borders store nearest you. All they have to do is read any 10 books this summer and they’ll receive a FREE book!
Harper Collins has this tip for helping kids enjoy reading:
Bring Your Book to Life!
A good book lets your child’s imagination run free to visit new worlds. After your child reads a book, help him or her to use other creative parts of their brain and build the world even more by acting out their favorite scene from the book. It’s a great way to have family fun on a summer night, or to bring together your child’s friends on a rainy afternoon. Even better, video the performance and you’ll have a great memory to revisit later!
Here are a few tips:
- Have your child imagine what the book would look like as a movie
- Let them design what the scenery would look like
- Encourage your child to choose their favorite character, and explain why
- And have fun!

my little boy has a hard time staying still!

The biggest challenge with getting my daughter to read is when she is reading on her own. I have to encourage her to try words she doesn’t know rather than wait for me to give her the word. Other than that she loves to read and be read to and so does my son, though he is a little young to read on his own he loves to try.

I don’t have kids, but I am a teacher. The biggest problem I have trying to get them read are finding books that hold their interest. In 6th grade they are at such an in between age that sometimes it’s really hard to find the right book!

It’s very difficult to get my 13 year old son to READ when he has his laptop filled with video games and an x-box 360 filled with video games! HOWEVER, I do have to say that when he gets a GOOD BOOK that HE enjoys, he’ll be literally glued to the book til he’s done…….which is usually in a day, then he’s back to the VIDEO games…..Geesh!

My hardest problem is just getting them to understand that you still have to read even though school is out. Reading is So important. My youngest son will read and my middle son will not read!!
